What is it?

Boardgaming with awesome people. We call it Trashfest but any and all games are welcome. If you dig it, bring it.

When is it?

The weekend of November 11th - 13th

Friday, Nov. 11th is Veteran's Day. If you have that day off, and want to game ALL day on Friday, please register early and let us know what time you want to get your game on. Our start time on Friday will be dependent on how many people will be arriving Friday during the day.

Where is it?

Barring natural disaster it will be held in the same place as last year which is the Elks Lodge, 9 North Park St in Vernon CT. Vernon is about 15 miles outside of Hartford and 20 miles from Bradley Airport. Vernon is located halfway between Boston and NYC; just a 2 hour drive from either great city.

How much is it?

$25  $20 if you register by Oct 14th.

Space is limited. Register early. Priority will be given to people who have attended in the past, followed by Fortress members, and finally Facebook followers.

How do I register?

Please register and pay by clicking this link: Trashfest Registration

Please include your name(s) and if you want to game before 6pm on Friday.

Where can I stay?

There are hotels of various quality/cost in the area from the Holiday Inn Express to the Motel 6 to several flavors of Marriott. There is limited floor space avalible at the homes of local F:ATies. Please cotact ubarose or Josh Look if you are interested.

What about food?

Saturday night dinner will be catered. The cost will be around $15 - $20 per person. Additional information regarding signing up and paying for dinner will be included with your invitation.

Otherwise you are on your own for food. There is every type of fast food within 10 minutes of the hall so no big deal.

 Thursday Nov. 10th from 6pm Until 11pm:

The second annual Burning Down the House Party at Uba's. Free refreshmests provided, but contributions of snacks and drinks welcome. Please contact Uba if you intend on coming so she can get a head count.

Friday Nov. 11th from 6pm Until Bartender says "Get Out" (12am maybe?):

Important! This is subject to change if we have enough interest in earlier gaming

In the main building in the lounge. That's the room with tables, juke box, pool table and cheese bowling table right off the bar. The bartender has the option to make "last call" early if he isn't making money so I'm not telling you you HAVE to drink but it wouldn't hurt. Last year we used this time for fun lighter/dexterity type stuff. We will have a Crokinole Board, Tumblin' Dice (hopefully), and the classic block game Cornerstone plus anything anybody else brings.

You will have to sign in at the bar when you arrive listing Jeff Luce as your host.

Friday Special Events

    • Great Flick Off

Saturday Nov. 12th from 10am to 12am:

Open gaming in the Carriage House.

Shelf Toad Sale - Sell your old, unloved games.

Additional activities, special guests and game demos are planned.

Dinner will be served Saturday evening. You must pre-register and pre-pay if you want dinner.

Additional information regarding dinner, Shelf Toad sale, and other activities will be included with your invitation.

Saturday Special Events

    • The Great Flick Off
    • Late Night Catch Phrase
    • More to come...

Sunday Nov. 13th from 12pm until last person leaves:

Back in the main building and the lounge. The tables are a bit smaller but we'll be close to the bar so hurray!

Sunday Special Events

    • The Great Flick Off
    • Awards Ceremony

Descriptions of Trashfest Northeast Special Events

The Great Flick Off

Over the course of Trashfest we will be holding a free form tournament. A copy of all the best flicking games will be present. At a time of your own choosing, you play any or all of them and earn points based on your performance. The person with the most points on Sunday shall be bathed in glory, have the right to demean and ridicule all other flicking wanna be's, and hear Al Rose say "I have tasted the bitter totality of defeat." There will also be a wonderful prize if the other things are not enough. So far the games list includes: Crokinole Flick-em-Up Rampage Ascending Empires Pitch Car Mini Catacombs Sorry Sliders And many more....

Shelf Toad Used Game Sale

Support the Fort. Bring your unloved games and trade them to other guests for money. In return, we are asking for a voluntary donation of 5% of the sale price (or whatever you feel you can afford) to support the Fort.

Sellers: Clean out your shelves. Bring your crappy games. Tag them with your name and your price. Put them on the Shelf Toad table. Put donation in Support the Fort jar when they sell

Buyers: Browse the Self Toad table for awesome treasures at reasonable prices. Find that Grail Game, or maybe just the perfect Secret Satan gift. Find the person whose name is on the tag, give them money, and you get to keep the game.  Don't forget to bring cash.

Game Demos with the Designers

Meet the designers. Learn new games.

More to come...

I'll be there. For anyone who wants to know what this event is like feel free to read my write up from last year:

This is a really laid back and fun weekend of gaming. It has a very welcoming attitude and games of ALL flavors n' types get played. You will see everything from the newest releases to some old obscure relic...and everything in between.

It's also a really great way to get some new games for cheap prices. Here is the list of stuff that I'm looking to offload.

Ancient Terrible Things
Arena Roma II
Battlelore 1st Edition
Black Friday
Boss Monster
Bring out Yer Dead
Cave Troll
D Day Dice + Expansion
Defenders of the Realm
In the Shadow of the Emperor
It's Alive
Mag Blast 3rd Edition
Robo Rally
Santiago de Cuba
Sky Traders
Small World + Expansions
Steam Park

Not sure what the prices are yet, but I'm not looking for much. These fuckers will be priced to MOVE. If you see something you want and are curious about a price. PM prior to the Con and I'll let you know. Or just send me an offer....again I'm not looking to make a ton of money, but just get rid of these games.

LOL. I'm here most of the time. I guess I just don't have much to say. Although I have been thinking about starting a regular "Minority Report" feature, since I find myself disagreeing with most everyone on most everything game related ;

Dave, I request to play at least one game with you this year. I always feel like a dick for not playing something together and I know a lot of my favorites don't jive with you, but I'm making a point fix it this year. I really dig Terraforming Mars, so maybe we can get that on the table?

Can't wait for this. Also, I think I'm turning the "No vacancy" sign on at Look Manor. I'm sure Egg will sleep over at least one night, sounds like Zavos is crashing in my game room.

I'm thinking it might be cool to have a small Star Trek Ascendancy tournament. If we can get 9 people interested we can have a single elimination deal where the winners from the first three tables play a second game for undisputed bragging rights and a small prize I shall provide. We'll have at least two copies of the game and maybe three so yes it would be a time commitment but not that bad and if the winners wanted to they could have the final on Sunday.

it was a wonderful weekend of games and great people. I got to see so many old friends and make a few new ones. The only downer was I didn't get but a few seconds with a couple of people. I did get to play some of my favorite games with people who love them as much as I do, including Wiraqocha, Mare Nostrum and Cthulhu Wars.

My friend Matt and I came on Saturday and had a great time. Here was our dance card:

Thunder Alley - I enjoy TF because I can often get stuff played that doesn't go over well with my other groups because it's too "random" or "long" or whatever. This is a good example. Matt and I both love this, but it's a bitch trying to get it on the table. So playing with Jeff and Mike was great, and I even pulled out a win.

Terraforming Mars - I shouldn't have brought this cause it ain't AT and it's not like I can't get it played elsewhere but I LIKE IT SO MUCH. Played with Matt, Andrew, and Jason and I managed to fall into some serious plant synergy. They all liked it a bunch.

The Dragon and Flagon - The same group from TM plus Nick got this one in, which was perfect for the occasion. There was mug-throwing, table-pushing, cannon-fire, and a lot of folks were swingers, as in "to swing". a great, sloppy time.

Cosmic Encounter - Same group played this one. I'm not a fan but they'd played my games so I was happy to oblige. I picked the "fun" power over the "good" one, and my ability to swap the encounter cards and Jason's ability to make me show mine first made for some interesting combos. We ended up sharing the victory.

Codenames Pictures - played while we were waiting for other games to wrap up, and we were joined by Matthew. My first time playing the pictures incarnation, and I liked it. More or less than the word version, I can't say, but I think it will be easier for some folks to get into.

Mechs vs Minions - Matthew taught this to Matt, Saul, and me. I had heard all about this hotness but didn't know what it actually was until it was apparently all sold out. The production is, of course, beautiful, and the game was a lot of fun. We didn't have too much problem in our scenario until Saul's mech got hit with a lot of damage and we had to work around it. But we managed to stem the minion tide to victory. A lot of fun.

Ice Cool - Al taught this flicking game to Mindy, Matt, and Me, and it was a riot. Such simple dumbness, such fun.

Cockroach Poker - Best way to close out the night. Me, Matt, Mindy, Saul, Ray, and Al. Move of the game was when Saul tried to give a card to Matt, not realizing Matt had started that card in the first place.

Had a great time! Didn't get to play with a lot of folks (some got tied up in super long games) but it was great seeing everyone.

Yes, I played in two games. One on Saturday as the Klingons and one on Sunday as the Romulans. Both my previous games had been as the Federation so I was happy to get the chance to try out the other two factions. I did abysmally as the Klingons. Having very little science income I was not able to advance my weapons and shields as I should have which made winning battles near impossible and winning battles is the most direct path to victory. Sunday as the Romulans I did much better coming within a hair's breadth of winning. Tied on on ascendancy with the Klingons on the final turn but lost the tie breaker which is controlled planets by two. It was a great time.

I also got to play Swashbucker, the game Englestein revamped into Dragon and Flagon. I had played the sci-fi version, Adventurer, to death as a kid and I was hoping it would have stood the test of time. I am happy to report that it did. Yes it's very old school with hand written pre plotted movement and charts and not beer mugs but Beer Mug Units. However it was still great chaotic fun. I was able to yank the rug out from underneath the feet of Billy Zavos who slipped and fell. As he was getting up, Dan was able to come in and bravely stab him in the back and kill him dead! Al, meanwhile, was turning circles by himself over in a corner.

Cornerstone, I got to play twice. Still awesome. Still a smash hit with everyone I've ever played it with.

Thunder Alley as Lego mentioned. It was good to get a chance to play that game again. I like it but it is a BITCH to get anybody to play it with me.

A very fun weekend.

Played a nice amount of games with a great group of people. Loved getting to play Argent again. Black Fleet my favorite new-to-me game. And of course Nexus Ops - the perfect end-game to Trashfest.
Congrats to Engineer Al for being the new Flick Off champion. Perhaps next year Billy Zavos can reclaim his title.
Thanks everyone who organized it! Thanks Peggy for the killer Fall Cider cocktail and snacks. Many thanks to Shellie and Al for putting me up!
