A while ago, I was invited on a mailing list called (at that time) TOSBOWNER from a customer of ours in the US. It didn't take long before I realised something was strange about the list, with way too much indirect promotion. I figured it was a scam, did a bit of research, pulled out and since I couldn't find ANY information on this group, made a blog post on the HSPPS scam .
I normally do a review of who's linking to me where as part of my monthly check's and found one coming in from the Switchboards about the same topic. Reading through it, it started confirming my fears (well, old fears) and then I came across this:
I checked that link out and it just refreshed my mind. That guy was over promoting his brand on the group so he got banned and then started that thread to spread bad news about the group obviously. Hspps is surfacing and is new but has been talked about in a lot of networking groups out there and what the hell is hoofa or whatever.. Anyways if you don't like it just ask to be removed.
Frag me. Now I'm pissed. I've e-mailed the moderator to see if I can post a rebuttal even if the thread is closed. And now, I'm going to figure out how best to annoy them. Sadly, I'm late to the party since 'TESBOWNER' is shut down as is the rest of the sites, and a whois check shows they learnt enough to use domain name proxies for registration.
So, I'm asking my smart friends here - what else can I do track down these guys and locate their latest scam.
