Last night was my son's Cub Scout Pack Meeting. Besides the usual awards and notices of upcoming events, they wanted to have a family game night. So, they asked the parents to bring board games, children and adult friendly of course, to the meeting.
Well, it wasn't a matter of what board game to bring, but how many. Soooooo. I grabbed an empty tub and filled it up. Unfortunately, the meeting ran rather long and the kids were able to play maybe about one game before they had to pack it in. Not my idea of fun, but the majority of kids were clamoring all around me and my son.
Apparently, Battleball is a huge hit, as is Star Wars Duels. Got my butt kicked as Vader in a three on one. I also didn't mind the short attention spans, as soon as one kid got tired of playing, another would take his place.
All around me, I saw the usual board games... Sorry, Kerplunk. THe only thing slightly out of the ordinary was an R2 Operation game and one parent who's got the same taste in games as I do had Apples to Apples. He complemented me on my choice of games and made notes of some of the games he was interested in. Since he had several kids, I told him to get Magical Athlete and gave it the run down. He happily snapped a picture of it with his phone and bid me good night.
I also had several parents ask about Battleball. I told them that it wasn't in print anymore, but you could probably find it on Ebay or Amazon.
The best part of the night was driving to get food for Noah and my wife. He kept talking on and on about Battleball, a game I tried to coax him into playing without success.
"Do you want to play Battleball tomorrow?"
"YES! But with the basic rules."
I love being a dad.
