Typically in tabletop and card game, rules need to be clearly laid out. You want anyone to be able to pick up the game and know exactly how to play. This is the typical case, for good reason. Confusion and lack of clarity leads quickly to frustration.

In the past few days Sony sold their gaming division, Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) to a holdings company called Columbus Nova. This announcement was then followed layoffs including the games head programmer and their only level designer. Perhaps because his friends had left or perhaps because it’s always better to leave a ship before it sinks the design team’s commander in chief Matt Higby has resigned. It appears then that the writing perhaps long on the wall is now also on the door, ceiling and any other surface that comes to mind. Planet Side 2 is dying. ...

Jim Krohn is the creator of our really cool 4X space game,  Space Empires. In the expansions to SE, Jim has managed to give us a bunch of cool new additions and options without making the game unwieldy – a considerable design accomplishment. In this, Jim’s first article for InsideGMT, he takes us inside his newest expansion, Space Empires: Replicators, on the P500 list now and slated for release in 2Q or 3Q, 2015. Enjoy the article! – Gene

Another TrashFest NW come and gone! This year saw a new set of faces as well as old haggardly ones and there were a few surprise guests in attendance. I think this month will be chosen for future TFNWs.  My mind midway through the day was kind of foggy so details will be sketchy and I tried to get pictures of as many...

Hey Guys, I’m starting a new series based on games launched here in Brazil. I don’t want these to come across as lamentations about prices and the woes of gaming afar from EU/US, so I think these would be a good chance to revisit titles that represent a variety of periods from a perspective of whether you think they are good choices for someone to buy or publish and as remembrance of times long gone by.

“You can’t wire this the way you did.” This was the guy doing the inspection on the robot that my kid’s team had brought for competition this past Saturday. I’ve been watching the thread entitled The Games That Shaped Us and I have an overwhelming candidate for my entry, but this thing with that guy happened before I got a chance to write it up, and now I have such a big honking example that I have to use it and don’t want to put 2000 words into a forum post. It was turning...

September 21st 1944 "Thick as pea soup," is what the boys' mothers back home might have said to describe the fog that greets the soldiers the morning of September 21st. The soldiers themselves, covered in grime and now a cold clinging damp, have more colorful words for it. However they talk about it, it means visibility is measured in inches not feet and a good soldier must be cautious lest he walk himself straight into the business end of an enemy's rifle. So the day starts with the mechanized...
