hahaha, good one. I don't believe Hazel's usual diet is an apple. More like a chili-cheese dipped apple! But we all know Eugene doesn't allow food near his game table but that's for another day.

  • Mr Skeletor

Not feeling the humor in this one.

  • avatarSchweig!

Mmm... only two comments - this must be a lousy one.

  • avatarSagrilarus

You know, I think I just got it. It had to settle for a day before it hit me. It's much better in light of that.

    Sag.

What, he only makes 20 bucks a year? I'm confused...

  • avatarSusanR

I've laughed at every comic so far up until now. Arghh!! I'm not getting it!!!

  • avatardaveroswell

It looks like the wife is frying bacon on a magnifying glass...

  • avatarSouthernman

Argh - it's passed over my head as well. Germans obviously have it over Kiwis when it comes to humour.

  • avatarSchweig!

I`m going to explain the joke now: Read the wife's bubble as "I'm grateful for his leftovers".

Admittedly I can evalute my own comics pretty well. I usually draw them in the evening and then take them to university to scan them the next day. So if I get up in the morning, see the comic and must laugh myself - it's a good one. Unfortunately this wasn't the case with this one and the first Bored2Creases either. However, I just scanned and uploaded it anyways, because I neither had the time to draw a replacement nor do I want to discard any cartoon. I also thought this cartoon would be a good variation to last week's slapstick comic, which was pretty low.

Eugene makes more than 20 bucks a year, see cartoons #19 and #10.

Yeah, my mistake. The grease in the pan was meant to be the same color as the stains on Eugene's shirt. But then the brown from the table overspilled and made the whole pan brown. Also the table edge isn't straight. These are all mistakes I couldn't later correct. The joys of water coloring!

This was a good one. It's more like an updated American Gothic than a conventional comic with a punchline. Proud Eugene is being fed breakfast by his obedient, though perhaps not conventionally beautiful wife, while expressing satisfaction at the size of his game collection. Hazel even plays LOST CITIES with him! Truly, he has married well and achieved success and affluence.

  • avatarSusanR

Ahhh. I didn't pay attention to the title. That would have helped.

  • avatarSouthernman

Simon - just because one of us was terribly slow don't take that as a poor cartoon. Keep those creative rivers flowing !

  • avatarMattDP

I got it right away - and thought it was deliciously funny :)

  • avatardaveroswell

    I'm still confused. What happened??

  • avatargeneralpf

    I don't get it.

I'm not sure if we're all reading the same joke, but here's how I read it for a chuckle. The two of them are puffing themselves up with pride at being (in their opinions) such fine outstanding models of man and woman. The dude is like "Hey look at me! I'm so cool and manly! I sink all my money into boardgames like a fool!" and his wife is like "I'm such a perfect wife! I feed my man greasy food, I eat my healthy apple, and on top of all that I like Lost Cities tee hee! just give me the light wife game and I'll keep my perma smile! Yay me!".

It's a burn on the folks who let themselves fall into these caricatures. At least that's how I saw it.

  • avatarubarose

I read it as losers make sub-optimal choices.

  • avatarSchweig!

It's a caricature of the average (male) gamer's dreamworld.
    - Spend lots of $$$ on gaming.
    - Bacon.
    - A hobby tolerating wife. (No sneaking in/hiding game boxes.) She even plays some games with him!

Of course all other interpretations are valid, especially when they're funnier.

  • avatargeneralpf

You know what, it would have made way more sense if you'd added a comma after Lost Cities. I read it as "I like Lost Cities just like you do" and not "I also like to play Lost Cities".

    Now I get it.

  • avatarSchweig!

Due to all the mistakes in this one I uploaded a corrected image.

  • avatarSpace Ghost

My favorite part is that Eugene has his thumbs hooked under the wife-beater -- classic!

  • avatarSchweig!

    Thanks!

... but a day has passed since I submitted the new cartoon for this week.
