Thanks Merkles. I'm hoping to eventually get something written up on Fluch der Mumie. I've played it about 6 times, but don't own a copy myself, and it is difficult to write about something when you don't have it in your hands. I will tell you to keep your eye out for that one. An English version is said to be in the works, which I hope will be eventually be avalible at a reasonable price. I have my doubts, however, that it will ever be released in the US as a children's game, as it uses little, tiny magnets, which have pretty much been banned in children's toys in the US. I may have to suck it up and spend the big bucks on an imported copy.

If you play with risk takers who screw with each other, the game is fairly tense. Everyone will end up spending the last two thirds of the game (if they survive) with only a couple of lives. The real risk of being eliminated from the game gives it bite. However, if people play it safe, and don't push, it can become rather dull.

Also the game feels like it was dumbed down a bit to make it more accessible to the general public. That is, in part, what makes it more of a family game. It begs to be tweaked a bit. Fortunately, the game is simple and transparent enough that it is easy to create variants, without throwing off the game in some unexpected way.

To start with, it screams out for adjustments depending upon the number of players. Four player games bog down about two thirds of the way through the game. To win, you have to collect 5, different color treasure chambers, which are scattered randomly on the game board. There are exactly 4 of each color. Most players seem to be able to get their first three tiles quickly. The fourth is a bit of a challenge. Trying to get to the last one, which often meant crawling one of two spaces at a time across the entire width of the board, while skipping turns to heal lives, took forever.

We have been rolling around some variants in our heads, such as reducing the number of chambers/treasures you need to collect, adding an additional die roll each turn for Ammut movement, starting Ammut further along his track depending upon starting number of players, and maybe starting with the treasure tiles face down for more of an exploration feel to the game. And of course, creating some more interesting event cards. This can be a fun a project with imaginative gamer kids. We find our copy of Diamant hysterically funny, as the Spawn made up and illustrated her own hazard cards, which include "Taco to the eye."

I've always avoided this because I had heard it was horrible, but judging form you review it sounds like it just needs some jazzing up. How hard would it be to add a bit more tension to the game? Would be just be a matter of printing up a few new tiles/cards or would it take more than that?
