[quote=Stephen Avery]I gamed with Kevin at the last TowerGames game thing. We *did not* hit it off very well. We were trying his game Chimera and he kept correcting my pronounciation which only made me use it incorrectly more often. "That is KIE-mera!"

"So when do these Shimera fight?"

"KIE-mera. They don't fight. We vote on where they should live.

"Vote? Really? How about my shimera just comes and kicks everyone's ass out of the swamp."

"Kie-meras. No you lobby to get people to vote for yours"

"I think the SHIMmera should fight. Look I have a big spiky tail."

"Kie-Mera! No they don't fight."

"Well my shimera is fighting."

I'm pretty sure that is the first and last game we'll ever play together.

gvegas, you know you're right... I totally overlooked that new rule about the roles, and yes, that does negate probably 75% of my criticism about them. As long as you can change them at some point, then that's better. Of course, 2 AP can be crucial to have to spend to do that, and I still wish some of them were better to begin with, but I hereby retract a good chunk of my annoyance about the roles. Ah, that feels better. I don't like to be annoyed.

Thanks for the well thought out review. I think this is a great game, but I do agree that some of the roles are very situational. This was a piece of feedback our group gave to Travis since we were playtesting for him. I will say, however, that I felt he and Kevin addressed this by adding the rule that you can change your role for 2 AP at the fire truck. We thought this was a fantastic addition that made it so that when a role was "done" like the Hazmat Technician when the hazmats had all been removed, you could go and change to a more useful/interesting role. We really liked this change and felt it made the game both more thematic and flexible (drop some gear off at the truck, and suit up with new gear and charge back in). Did you try that? We have found it really helps.
