I've started a new game. Our game is called F:AT Skelly's Revenge!!

Matt, Jeb & Frank have been added. Waiting to hear back from Billyz and Steve.

If there is interest we can get another game going, post here if you'd like to play.

It's worth noting on that final board that that was at the end of the Attacker's move phase. I didn't bother with my retals since it was game over at that point, but I'd have take out a couple more creatures.

Thanks to Jeb for keeping this running tally of the game state.

Anyway, who's up for another?

It has ended, the last round I was rolling high like a madman. Matt had attacked my Guardian with a -6 troll and a -1 Gorgon and he locked up a ranger with his Wyvern.

On my retal I laid a a good beat down on his Gorg (-5). Then I retal'd on his Wyv (-3). Having killed his other Gorgon in the previous round (rangestrikes) I flew in my Archangel for good measure. On my attack I surrounded his Wyv and adjacent Titan with 3 rans and an angel. My guardian attacked again this time laying down 7 points of damage on the Gor taking it and the Tro out. My 2 of my Rans just manages to kill the Wyv and my Ang/ Ran combo managed to also just get the crucial 8 hits needed to end his Titan's life.

It was great fun, the next FA:T Titan game will be starting soon.

FINAL BOARD:

I didn't have much choice but to play timid because of those trolls - I need to keep a cordon around the Titan else all those flying creatures will whip right it and take him out. Which means I can only realistically move as fast as my slowest creature.

I won't survive this without a great big slice of luck anyway. I can't muster and Anthony has Angels he can summon.

So, I think it ends here. A showdown in the Plains, Anthony has Ranger x5, Guardian, Angel against Gorg x2, Troll x2, Wyvern, Titan (8 power dice)--this is bad news for Matt. Matt came out timid, too, giving the Rangers a free rangestrike, essentially. He'll need to rush and clear out those rangers with good rolls this round or he's dead by a thousand cuts.

Argh, I fucked up and I'm out. Torch gobbled up the Green 1-stack there, upgrading a Gorgon for an Angel. But then I went North with Cross, figuring Black Bell would move along rather than duke it out. I could have stayed in the middle puttering around, but I'm a MAN OF ACTION. Or rather, I WAS. Anthony rolls like twice as many successes as expected--it's uncanny.

Anyway, gaze ye on my ignominious end... and DESPAIR!

I dealt closer to 10 damage to that Cyclops, but he really fucking deserved getting hit for 96. I saw his stack was packed with rangestrikers so I had to run at him. He picked off a leading Lion in his first Retal. I swung around and pinned everyone to try and hold the Angel he'd get to only the upper corner (away from my Titan), but he just poured magma on my guys and swooped in. Two rounds and I'm out.

Here's where the game stands currently. That battle will be resolved in Anthony's (i.e., Black's) favor. I'm obviously weakest, but Anthony took some licks in that Titan stack, so I'm not completely out of contention. I really need an Angel though, but I roll 6's when I need 1's and 1's when I need 6's.

Speaking of rolling 6's, I got my shit ROCKED in a Brush hex by Anthony. I had 2 Cyc's, he had Rang x3, Cyc x2. I won't win, but maybe I can get a Ranger offed. OR, he could never miss and I just get embarrassed out there. Yeah, let's do THAT. He went 6-for-6 on the Rangers rangestriking into a Bramble (4's or better!) The Law of Large Numbers came into play on my turn, where I threw 0 6's with 9 dice, and then it bounced back to him with 15 hits in 24 dice at 50% probability.
(He took a Garg--not sure why).
Because it was the last one. Gargoyles in six player games are gold-dust because most people split their Gargoyles in the initial turn and so need to recruit a second to get anything worthwhile. Two gargoyles also have much faster recruiting potential than any other early game pair (it changes once you get some Rangers). So anything I can do to stop other players making Gargoyle pairs is worthwhile.

As an aside this isn't a really huge issue - if it looked as though I was going to finish the battle with two Centaurs standing I'd have taken another Centaur in preference. But that wasn't going to happen, so I snapped up the last Gargoyle instead.

I was getting to it, I only just awoke to find out it was my turn after however many years of internecine warfare between you two.

Here's what happened: Steve fucked up. He got a little buzz off his awesome rolls in the previous fight and decided to take it to a smaller stack (7 on 6) of Matt's. What could go wrong?

Oh yeah, that smaller stack is full of skill-4 Centaurs and it's sitting on a TOWER. This is a HUGE problem for Steve--his stack was:
Centaur -- Good
Gargoyle -- Meh
Gargoyle -- Meh
Ogre -- SUCKS
Ogre -- SUCKS
Ogre -- SUCKS
Titan -- Great

Matt's stack was:
Centaur -- Good
Centaur -- Good
Gargoyle -- Meh
Gargoyle -- Meh
Lion -- Good
Lion -- Good

..and if it makes it to Round 4, he can muster a Tower creature (He took a Garg--not sure why).

The important thing to remember about attacking into a Tower is that the Defender gets to set up on the Tower walls and this language comes into play:
EFFECT ON MOVEMENT: A non-flying character is slowed when moving up across a Wall hexside.
EFFECT ON STRIKING: Any character gains a Skill-factor when striking down across a Wall. Any character loses a Skill-factor when striking up across Wall.
So--those Ogres are 6/1. Those Centaurs are 3/5. Ogres are hitting on 6's ONLY, against any of Matt's creatures. Centaurs hit an Ogre 3 times--guaranteed (strike number is 1).

Steve rolled well, again, but he didn't have much of a chance. So Matt's got an 8/4 Titan, Anthony has a 7/4 and my 6/4 is looking to upgrade.

Found a little one to chew up: BillyZ's Titan stack. He didn't get anything rolling with his other stacks, so no Angels to add there. 6 on 1, should be brief. I'll snag an Angel out when he totals his legions.

To split or not to split, that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the game to suffer
The strike chart whims of outrageous fortune.

I gotta split. Only one stack, it's at 7, and won't get hit this turn. Time to move. But how? I've got Titan, Cyc, Cent, Cent, Cent, Garg, Garg. I'm in the Middle Field, almost everyone else is in the Outer Ring. I decide to split off the Garg, Garg. It leaves fewer dice for attacking with the Cents, but that whole 5-stack is pretty crazy with the strike numbers: 4, 2, 4, 4, 4. That's not fun for anyone. A decent roll will let me muster on both of them.

...but I roll a 1. I can got to Swamp or Brush. Ugh. Swamp does nothing for me. I send the Gargs that way to get another Garg, hopefully setting up a Guardian at the Tower for next time. The Titan stack heads for the Swamp and waits to see what happens next. Other stacks are splitting, maybe I can find some little ones to chew up and get an Angel in the works.

Mr. Skeletor is out. drmabuse00 ate him up. It was Frank's first game though, and he was using the broken rules from Valley Games in his defense (the strike table is wrong). he also broke his initial legions into Cent Ogre Garg, which is the worst thing to do from a mustering perspective. Chalked up as a learning experience; he still enjoyed it and will be back for more.

In the intervening days, I've fired up Colossus and played some solo games against a smattering of AI's (all but HumanHating). I've gotten a lot better, tactically, but also strategically. I now realize that I'm pretty much a walking dead man in this current game. Things will have to really gel for me to have any chance of success. I need a couple of easy stacks to punish, and some decent recruiting rolls. Right now I'm in the outer lane, so it's pretty grim.

The Angel survived, but got licked by the Titan in his move/attack phase. I retal'd but got only 1 hit. Suuuuucked. The Cyclops took out the brambled Ogre handily, but the other one made it over the Titan, where I needed a miracle--6 dice, 3 hits at 6. (~6% chance). I got 1. He gets the 76 points, but his Titan stack is now just a Titan.

Ok, my Angel got some awesome licks in and took out the Garg up there at E5 (since moved to D6), and laid two wounds on Cyc D5. What are the odds it will survive a Retaliation phase? Garg gets 4 dice at 3:4 (needs 5 to hit) and Cyc gets 9 dice (jeez) at 2:4 (needs 6). Here's the odds for the Garg swipe:
0 wounds: 19.7%
1 wounds: 39.5%
2 wounds: 29.6%
3 wounds: 9.9%
4 wounds: 1.2%

Here's the Cyclops chances:
0 wounds: 19.4%
1 wounds: 34.9%
2 wounds: 27.9%
3 wounds: 13.0%
4 wounds: 3.9%
5 wounds: ~0%

I combine all the scenarios that let the Angel live (Garg whiffs, Cyclops gets only 0, 1, 2, or 3 wounds; Garg gets 1, Cyc gets 0, 1, or 2; etc.) and add all those up--the chances that the Angel lives is 69.2%.

Of course, then it's Billy's Move/Attack and that Cyclops will take another hack with nine dice. Or the Titan will move over and mop up.

Billy made a nice tight set up in the corner, really nestling his Titan back amidst the Natives and Brambles. You can make a case for putting the Gargoyle on D4 instead of D5 for the Bramble bonus, but he'd have to play aggressor for that to work, as I would be trying to gut punch into the gap to get his Titan. Getting his Titan is my only shot--he's got Natives (Cyclops, Garg, Garg), and the Round 4 Muster of a Cyclops on his side if I don't take out a Gargoyle and the Cyclops by then. Even with that he still gets a Gargoyle.

I flanked around the Tree/Bramble hexes in the middle to try and but through that Gargoyle wall and get to his Titan with my Angel. I'll weaken this stack enough to make it tempting for others to take out, even I don't do it myself, but I think I set myself up for a quick exit too, as my other legion is on the outer circuit and pinned at the moment.

This is after Round 2 Move/Attack. The Troll totally whiffed on 8 dice (needed 6's), but the Brambled Ogre got one for 6. The Centuar 3-for-3'd that garg in E5 though, it's eliminated after Retailiation.

So, I lied, I was looking to tangle the next turn. Probably a mistake on my part, but in my defense, Bill_Z took fucking forever at GenCon and left us all hanging. My Angel stack is tangling with his Titan stack in the Jungles of J33. I think he'll whale on me, but I might get lucky if those brambles mess him up.
