    1) It's good to know that Josh Look doesn't use that exasperated tone that implies that you are quite possibly the most mentally crippled person he has ever met in his life only with me.

    2) Al, even though you disassociate yourself with this podcast...you really are the star here. You suffered through hours of rambling incoherence so we didn't have to. Thank you, Engineer Al.

The recording isn't that bad. It's not pretty, but its audible and still entertaining, definitely rated R.

Good superhero movie = the Mask, X-man 1, Bad superhero movies = most of the others.

  • avatarMattLoter

The "director's cut" of some of stuff is straight up epic. But, much like a game Z, I can only talk about it how great it is and not share it.

  • avatarJosh Look

The Mask and X-Men 1? Please, stop embarrassing yourself.

Engineer Al sounds super smooth, like lock up your daughters smooth.

On the "revelation" at 29:40. I think this is the core issue for almost all AT gamers that pull them away from Euros. I think people search for the best of genre of games, no matter how you define what genre is. Area control, Filler, Dice, Adventure, etc. However if this was true most people would own about 10 games (I realize some folks do own just that number). I think we then create subcategories that fall under the major genres and like to have games that best fulfill that subcategory as well. While you can use any number of criteria to divide it up, those that enjoy "theme heavy" or "Ameritrash" or however you want to describe it tend to use that as a decisive criteria.

As a fan of adventure games I love Arkham, but also really enjoy Merchant's and Marauders because of the pirate/high seas theme, at other times Tales of Arabian Nights will fit the bill instead. If I was comparing strictly mechanics of how to play an adventure game, I don't feel I'd own all 3 just the one I thought did it best.

So I've found that I have almost zero interest in even exploring new Euro type games. I have my best in genres already filled with some subcategories divided up by player number and/or complexity. Its gonna take some unforeseen mechanics for me to enjoy a tile placement game more than I enjoy Tigris and Euphrates. However you have a post-apoc game that uses tile placement... that's something I've never tried and even if it is a mechanically weaker game there will still be a draw.

When I discover new games that interest me the mechanics and game type now tends to be the last thing I look at, I'm most drawn in when a game gives me a new genre- meaning it creates its own subcategory to fill.

A great superhero movie is the Incredibles. If we could have gotten an FF movie half-as-good as the Incredibles...

  • avatarMattLoter

Hey Da Bid, I think that's what I was saying? Either way you said it well and I'm sure more clearly than I did.

    And yeah, X-Men 1? Ewwwww

I was thinking the same thing. The Incredibles has great characters, humor, action, and an engaging story that works on multiple levels. What a great flick. Better than The Avengers. It is "super smooth".

Yeah I just am way more long winded... I guess I could've said I agree and been done with it.

Although I think it applies more to purchasing games more than playing them. My group knows I'm a hater on Smallworld, I think there's far better games that out there that accomplishes its aims. But if I'm the only guy there that would rather play something else and I put up a huge stink about it if we play... I'm just being a dick.

Josh Look, I won the bet that you couldn't last 24 hours without talking about batman.

  • avatarbillyz

I'll stand by my statement that Unbreakable is one of the best superhero movies ever made. Now Look & Loter have already taken the position that Unbreakable is not a superhero movie per se - and they do have somewhat of a point- but fuck them: they're not allowed to use logic in any of their arguments.

Again- Dark Knight- best superhero movie ever made- what do Look & Loter think? Not a superhero movie. I'm confused- is good cinema an automatic DQ when it comes to SH flicks? Fuck. If that's the case I'm gonna go with the Avengers and call it a day.

  • avatarMattLoter

I dunno, but thinking about it more I want to put The Rocketeer on there for myself. Not the best but easy top 10 if not top 5. Comic is better of course, but it's still awesome.

Also, do Josie & The Pussycats count as superheroes? Cause I fucking love that movie too.

    No.

  • avatardaveroswell

My favorite superhero movie has to be Superman. I know, I know. Superman is a boring character. Interestingly enough, my reasons don't really revolve around Christopher the Reeves role.

    1) I saw this movie as a kid and just remember being mesmerized by the Fortress of Solitude, and by the mirror prison thing.

    2) Brando kicked ass for me in his short role as daddy.

    3) The music brought a grandeur to the film that I don't really see any more.

My worst movie? Ghost Rider. GAK.

  • avatarflim_flam

Holy shit, this was funny. I got serious looks while listening to this at work (with headphones) because I was laughing so hard.

WHY ARE WE AT TACO BELL AGAIN!

  • avatarflim_flam

Also, how did I miss going on this trip? Oh yeah, babies...
