TOPIC: Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns goes animated

Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns goes animated

This has been out for a couple weeks, but I'm dropping the trailer here. I can't stop watching it. Can not wait to see the rest.

First part is out in September, second part is out, with any luck, around February according to Bruce Timm. WB did just shut down their DTV animation studio, but it sounds like part 2 is still going to get released. I hope so. As much as I'm chomping at the bit to see part 1, Joker and Superman are going to kick all ass.

EDIT-aaaaaaaand Josh Look never fails to post in the wrong forum.

Yeah, it looks pretty bad ass and the DC animated stuff is usually on the mark. I'll definitely be buying it. I still haven't seen the Year One movie though.

If you haven't seen it, the BTAS episode "Tales of the Dark Knight" has these four kids each describing their version of Batman. One of them is sort of a mini DKR, complete with mutants and the Bat-tank.

Year One is really solid. Not as good as Under the Red Hood, but still really damn good.

That's a killer TAS ep. I've been toying with the idea of doing an article on my 10 favorite episodes of BTAS, that one might be a contender.

People always point out DKR as a point when Frank Miller wasn't garbage but I really don't see it.

With Bruce Timm involved??!? Was he involved with Red Hood or Year One?

Though I think the hidden genius behind BTAS was Alan Burnett, same level as Timm and Dini.

I love the old-school goofball Bill Finger part of that BTAS episode the best; I still have the image of Batman tooting a giant flying saxophone burned into my memory. Wouldn't put it as one of my 10 favorites, though. Two-Face is the best, easily...Feat of Clay...I think my list might be dominated by two-parters. "Heart of Ice", also awesome. Damn, can't wait till my son's old enough so I'll have an excuse to watch them all again.

PS: When does the Justice League cartoon get good? I watched just the first two stories, and thought there were kind of terrible, but I know some people say that Justice League is better than BTAS. Does it get better, and when?

Re: Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns goes animated

Season one is definitely weaker, but two isn't bad. Unlimited is sort of where it gets awesome, but I'd almost say that if season two didn't do it for you, then it may just not be for you. But if you ask me, it's no where near as good as BTAS was.

And yes, Bruce Timm has had a hand in all the recent DC animated movies.

Yeah, I saw this recently and was blown away. Hopefully it will be as mature as the original cause the animation looks spot on, like they used actual panels for inspiration if not a direct recreation. I wonder if Dr Ruth will be in it. This was the first DC book I actually liked. I was living in Germany at the time and bought it in London as a trade paperback while on holiday. Read the whole thing in one sitting on the tour bus back home by the little personal overhead light while the rest of the bus slept. Been waiting for a movie adaption ever since.

Yeah, I've noticed most dicksleeves tend to have that problem.
