Man, I love unique stuff like this, and it sounds fascinating, but $85 might be a lot to take a flyer on.

What I find interesting is:
•1 to 79 GAMES PRE-ORDERED: I will hand make every game BUT that will be it. I WILL NOT MAKE ANY MORE GAMES BEYOND WHAT IS PRE-ORDERED
•80 to 249 GAMES PRE-ORDERED: I will be able to manufacture at least the game board. The game board was the the most labor intensive portion of the game. Having this manufactured saves a ton of time on my part. I will make other elements but also manufacture what I can. I WILL NOT MAKE ANY MORE GAMES BEYOND WHAT IS PRE-ORDERED AT THESE QUANTITIES. THE LABOR ON MY END TO MAKE ANY MORE WOULD BE TOO TOUGH.
•250 GAMES PRE-ORDERED & BEYOND: I will manufacture 500 games here in Denver. There would probably be games left over after those pre-ordered.
So, I see it part game part craft/folk-art. And for that I'm willing to take a bit of a flyer and pay a premium.

I agree VonT. That's part of what did it for me. I'm bummed that I missed out on adding on a "pre-painted psychedelic" version of the Shaman figure though [scroll to the bottom of the "buy 1 copy" page to see the shaman figure options as an add-on purchase].

Huh, my wife actually sounds interested, and her brother and his fiancee might be into it too (they're into new age stuff). I'm reading through the rules, and I sent my wife the NHS review. If I get it, I think this will officially become the weirdest damn game I own.

Unless you own Grade Up to Elite Cow, it will be.

Okay, I caved and ordered. I can't not have something this goddamn weird.
I read through the rules, and there's some stuff I wasn't super clear on. Is this a case of stuff makes sense when you've got the components in front of you? Like, it doesn't really mention when the board unfolds (I assume it's when you move off the end of the path), and I wasn't sure if the special actions that show up are a once ever per player or once per turn per player thing.

I've been looking for Grade Up to Cow Elite for sometime now -- for a variety of reasons, but mainly I think that it will appeal to some people in my family.

Andy- since nobody answered...there are no solo rules, but yes, I think it plays OK solo. You can still get into its themes and see what the game is aiming to do. But there is no shooting, so you might be unhappy with it.
Chaz- yeah, it makes a lot more sense when you set it up. Reading the rules describes a game that makes little or no sense. But when you have it out, you see that some of it is really not quite so alien as it seemed. The boards do flip when you move, and as you'll see the older boards disappear as it folds until it all opens up in that last panel.
