Prophecy is reprinting, and the Water Realm, a new expansion, is also on the way.

Praise be to God.

I always conflate this one with Return of the Heroes. How does it compare/contrast with other adventure games?

Prophecy is garbage. Heard from my wife after 4 hours of playing, "…THAT'S IT?!"

I like adventure games and thought this was the worst of the "Big 4" of the mid-noughties (Talisman, Runebound, ROTH, Prophecy). Now it is just Mage Knight and Talisman for me.

This is being reprinted by z-man, they'll produce 500 copies and msrp will be 129.99.

Huh?

Anyway, Prophecy has little relevance these days.

Bull is taking shots at the fact that Z-Man seems to woefully under-produce their titles these days.

OK, one game, which is Robinson, which has the sort of [well deserved] wide appeal all across the hobby that is rarely seen.

And Terra Mystica, and I believe there were a couple others.

Terra Mystica was readily available after the hype died, even made more than a couple Holiday sales on online retailers.

Sorry for coming across as a bit confrontational, but my annual work at the Z-Man booth gives me the urge to go on the defense when necessary.

Not confrontational at all. Let's just say that they could have handled initial releases a lot better. It just seems like since it's no longer Zev's baby that they've lost the pulse of the hobby a bit.

We did sell out of Terra Mystica within 2 minutes. I had this lady who came up to me and her exact words were, "You're sold out of it? This is BULLSHIT! How am I supposed to play it if I can't, I don't know, buy it?" Man, Cult of the New...

I will say that I think Robinson's rarity might be helping it. However, there has been a copy sitting at my LGS for a few weeks now, so I don't think it's quite as bad as Eclipse was two years ago or FFG's handling of X-Wing (which my retail friends tell me is a bonafide nightmare).

My kids and I played Prophecy quite a bit 5 or 6 years ago, although always with the 2-artifact win condition to greatly reduce the playing time. (The coop Dragon expansion revived our interest, whenever that was released.) I'll always hate Talisman, so no comparison there.

Nowadays, if I want to adventure and roll dice with the family, I'll just play Pathfinder. At least until we get sick of the different scenarios. If nothing else, Pathfinder is shorter, is fairly easy to set up, and has the cool "develop your character deck between games" mechanic.

Though I'm tempted to return to Prophecy, at least a few times, if the Water expansion is released. I had that on my "to buy" list for years.

My family's natural progression through adventure gaming was:

Return of the Heroes (GREAT for kids)
Descent 1.0 (we'd leave this set out for weeks, since we didn't have a part-eating dog at the time)
Prophecy
Runebound (one kid loves it, which is why I own all things RB; the other doesn't care)
Warcraft: the Adventure Game (a "better" Talisman, to me)
Pathfinder

My wife still loves RotH, but the kids have cooled on it. There's no way that I'd go back to Descent 1.0 again (I should sell all that stuff), and my family strongly prefers Pathfinder over Descent 2.0.

I'd play any of the above, any time, except Descent 1.0. Although I won't play Runebound with more than 3 players, and 2 is preferable. And Warcraft: Adventure probably goes longer than it should.

I also have an ongoing Descent 2.0 campaign (with adults) that I need to get back to.

in the current market i can totally see this bombing. There are a lot of fantasy adventure games now, and there might be even a few more by the time this reprint ships.

Also its interesting seeing whats rare on the other side of the pond. I guess its the euro at Atlantic divide. Games like Robinson Crusoe and Terra Mystica tend to be available for quite a while over here, wheres some AT games, like Franks Battle Beyond Space don't even necessarily make the crossing.
