Here's a note from Phil Eklund over on BGG (commenting on a review):

I can only add that there are only two dozen Pax Porfiriana left for sale on my www.sierra-Madre-games.eu website. I may do a small reprint if demand is high enough.

If you think you might want this game and haven't bought it yet, now's the time.

Super cheap shipping, too, from Germany (like 5 bucks).

Surprised it lasted this long - almost 18 months to sell out . It has a small but loyal following.

Buy now - it will only get more expensive once it goes out of print.

cracked open some beers after work and played a game with two of my colleagues, who don't do games much. I won on the third topple card with 3 command points. Not that surprising given that they had only played once before.

One of the things i love about this game is the fact that it has 200 unique cards. And some of them are powerful enough to build half your game strategy around. I got the refrigerated train card and built my entire economy around upgrading connections, then using the money to dump troops around. Because cards like this may not come up, there isn't some nonsense bullet proof strategy we can discuss in this thread. This really is a game that you have to play by ear and see what cards come up in the flop.

I really like this trend in new games, Duke. Nations has this too. You may never see that combination of cards again, so it encourages thinking on your feet combowise.

Tried and true, ever since Cosmic Encounter.

But 200, using less than half (except for really big games) gives a great game. Things are familiar, but not guaranteed. Some of the seriously drastic things, like Governors, may not appear at all.

Definitely one of my favorite parts of this game. So much depends just on what the deck coughs up and when.

Agghh. Now it's selling for $50+. I guess I'll pre-order Greenland to numb the pain. I noticed that Greenland only has 60 cards, as opposed to the 200 cards of Pax. Maybe this will be the first simple game released by the Eklund group.
Last edit: 17 Jun 2014 22:52 by Cranberries. Reason: Added an intriguing but pointless question about Greenland.

Unless someone bought it in the last 48 hours he's got one copy left. No box or rules though. If anybody is still on the fence you better snatch it. Just email Phil.

A Spanish company is going to release an improved edition with a board, fixed errata and better graphic design so I'm waiting for it. Really looking foward to it :D

Cool. Are they going to print an English language edition?

I actually really like how the current cards look though. More games need strawberry milk pink.

The publisher is practically a shop so I don't think they'll release an English version.

For any Pax Porfiriana fans who like this period's history, Netflix has just added some Spanish language documentaries discussing the assassinations, conspiracies, and intrigue of the Mexican Revolution. They all have English subtitles.

Check them out:

Magnicidios I & II
Zapata Vive
Revolucion Mexicada
Pancho Villa: aqui y alli
Pancho Villa: toma zacatecas

It had been ages since I picked this game up, we just got into again. It is SO RAD. The profound implications of the game state change and the strange semi-coop you can play... it's so good.

And the biggest thing to emphasize is that this game has kind of deeply interesting interactions between players and the game state but it is such a small, short game in many respects. Rare to get those two things together.

Makes me want to buy a copy of Pax Pamir, but I'm not sure I need it since I haven't played this game enough. Has anyone explored it at all? What's different re: Porfiriana?

I'm a fan but, like Mottainai, I think it wants you to believe it's more brilliant than it really is. Much of the underlying mechanisms and strategy are dead simple, but it's all obfuscated in complex interactions and layers of obtuse interfacing.

I like it a lot though despite this.

The collector's editions from Sierra Madre are shipping out now. Should have mine soon.
