Re: Wings of War / Wings of Glory Support Group

I have my monster-sized damage decks that are from the old version and likely won't walk. If somebody stole half a dozen measuring sticks it wouldn't matter as I think I have 20 of them now. It means I need to pull my box apart which is a bit of a hassle.
The problem with playing at public settings. I do so little of it now because of the crowd I've run into. Some people are great, but inevitably there's a loser that you need to deal with no matter how hard you try to avoid them.

I would definitely worry about this. At a local game store you're talking about a fair number of young people with very little free cash.

Fokker Dr.I - Lothar von Richthofen
Fokker Dr.I vs Sopwith Camel Duel Pack
New or Used. Will pay over msrp, but not ridiculous prices.
These should reprint. I saw two Duel Packs today but both were the other one. I bought Lothar because I couldn't resist that bright yellow paint job, and I have six or seven matching triplanes now which looks cool when they're lined up.
They really need to reprint the originals from Wings of War to get the prices back right again. I have people contacting me for Fritz Kempf's Dr.I that are working up really convoluted trades, and I don't even have him on my trade list. That's money Ares is leaving on the table right now.

And all this with the spectre of an Ares reprint hanging over the market. I can't imagine people actually get these prices.

Makes me want to kickstart our next Wings of War event with a little bi-plane ride.
Actually, having all the players throw a few bucks in a pot...we could award the winner with a ticket...

Aerodrome Accessories has restocks, but the only Dr.I is Manfred, and unfortunately that would be a duplicate if you purchased a Duel Pack at a later date.
The space has gotten more crowded with seven games using the same movement mechanic now. I think Ares has tough decisions to make about which products to produce for their dependable customers, and which to produce to attract new customers.

Was Sails of Glory any good? Are most of the different models just repaints of a few basic ship designs? I find the product line a little confusing.

It's a descendant of Dawn of World War II with the same two-step movement mechanic and multiple speeds. I don't like that as much. In spite of that, I've enjoyed it when I've played it.
You can get really snookered in this game because the ships bottle each other up. And there's a lot of just pounding the shit out of each other with limited options to outmaneuver someone. In those respects it's very realistic. Perhaps not appealing to all, but it was about as brutal an era in warfare as there's ever been, so you come into it knowing what to expect. I personally don't have a problem with declaring victory if I sink fifteen minutes later than the other guy, so I'm fine with it.

Lothar's Dr.I will be the tougher pick up. I'll keep an eye out for one for you.

Update -- Hey Dog, I think Lothar's Fokker may have been one of the dupes in my big purchase. I just looked at my photos. If it is it's yours, send me your mailing address.
