Years ago they were all $250 and up, and they were getting pirated into oblivion on the Internet. They were sending C&Ds to people all over the place. There was a file on Pirate Bay that had 30GB of mp3s in it. They finally figured out that if they got their prices into a more reasonable place they'd get ten times the purchases and make the same amount of money, especially since most of their target audience has jobs and doesn't mind spending a dollar or two on quality.
I first ran into them when I bought a big-ass CD sleeve full of their stuff at an Estate Sale. I think I paid about $10. Didn't know what it was but the titles sounded pretty doggone interesting and no one else wanted it, so I got it at the opening bid. I've listened to all of those except the one on the Vikings which seems to keep missing the boat. I've purchased about half a dozen since, my Ma does too and then we swap.
All that said, their pricing still remains an enigma. Granted it's an enigma at around $50 instead of $250, but still very strange. "Buy one, get a second 175% off!"
