X-COM

Looking intriguing, uses a coordinated App to run the thing.
1-4 players cooperative against the invaders.

yup. it looks like a pretty strategic view, with little of the tactical squad game in it. I'm interested.

If they come out with a full tactical expansion with side boards (that they expand), this could be the best thing ever created.

The AI would be near-impossible to do.

I wonder if the app is mandatory or if there is a backup card system? Not that I am against the app or anything, I'm just curious how commited they are to the idea.

Galaxy Defenders and Gears of War did it.

Hell - they could just re-skin Gears of War core system (since cover is important in X-Com) as they've neglected GoW throughout the years.

That board looks so busy, but I'm very interested regardless.

Like charlest said, give me a side board (like in Titan) and I am sold.

Very much wait and see what happens for me.
Sitting by a tablet/phone/computer doesn't excite me (neither did a CD player with Space Alert either).
Reading the description it sounds like Pandemic mixed with the Audio Track from Space Alert and the roles of Space Cadets smashed up into an ultimate whack-a-mole game.
Very much wait and see for me.

The FFG page says "Required Free App". Kind of a bummer. The great thing about board games is that they work forever, even if the company stops supporting it. Can't say that about software, and despite how cool this looks the required app is a show-stopper for me.

It's 2014, and we're complaining about using an app along with a game, for a Sci-fi technology based computer game adaptation?

Should have called it XC because half of the game is missing. The really good part.

Guys, I love y'all but this looks like shit. I can tell by the description that it is, as suggested above, some kind of post-Pandemic whack-a-mole game with *GASP*! special ability characters. Board looks like a jumbled nightmare.

But hell, it'll probably sell on the name alone. Not for me.

No. I'm complaining that 10 years down the road when the app is no longer supported and the OS it was developed for is long gone, that the game could very well be unplayable. If the app was optional I'd have no complaints at all.

Yeah the app and the designer's name are what has me most worried. If they don't offer an analog way to play the game, in 10-15 years the only way to play it might be having a laptop (since I'm sure the windows program will be able to be run somehow), this might sounds minor, but you also need to make sure whatever you're running the app on has enough juice to make it through the game (which I don't know how long is), and soundtrack based games often have a hard time being played outside of the home, such as at a gamesday or a convention. It's a weird choice to rely on third party support for a crucial part of your product to operate, regardless of the current day installed user base.
