So FFG just gave their annual In Flight thingie at Gen Con. They announced a few things, but the big game was Star Wars: Imperial Assault. They describe the game as Descent 2.0 meets Star Wars.

I really like Descent 2.0. So gut reaction is excitement.

What I need to see though is more about what the game actually is...So I'm cautiously optimistic.

Ugh, I dunno...the Star Wars thing makes me lower my guard, the Descent thing makes me put it back up. I do not have any desire to play a game anything like Descent any time soon. I'd rather this be something like the D&DAS games- easy to play, fun, not a lot of bullshit, not four hours per sit-down. Which does not match the Descent sell sheet at all. Guardedly pessimistic.

I'll keep my mind open but at first glance it seems random and odd.

Looks like this is intended to easily integrate with their RPG line so put me down as interested. Any idea what the MSRP might be?

...my reaction is similar to Barnes. I'm not interested in this. Star Wars has never struck me as a universe that would have people clamoring for a hallway shooter. I could be totally wrong about that, though.

I can see where it would be worth a try from their perspective.

This could be cool, descent 2nd ed is a pretty good system. Star Wars has a bunch of good troop types and monsters to use, this won't feel as limited as the space combat games. Looking forward to it, if the OT main characters come in the base box I'm probably in.

What about X-wing? I hear rumor of a new faction... bounty hunters with three new ships and then an aces type pack to convert hwks or y wings or something.

What are you going to do? Shoot monsters in a trash compactor ? Chop off some guy's arm in a bar?

Color me indifferent. Star Wars is about space, not melee combat.

People enjoy very different parts of Star Wars, I guess...

Plenty of science-fiction movies feature space ship combat. Star Wars is famous for the light sabers.

I think SW bridges space battle with more conventional shoot 'em up land-based things, so this type of game could be cool for what it is.

An interesting thing to note is that FFG is specifically billing this as a "board game," which may mean that they have now acquired the rights to produce SW board games... previously it was only minis and card games. So there's a chance that something really great in the SW board game arena could come out from FFG, maybe relating to episode 7, or possibly a SW version of TI3 as some have talked about.

Namedrop Descent in your description and you've immediately lost me.

Wow! That's unexpected and wonderful. I'll be really curious to see what the setting is. They've done one game in Ravenloft, one in Mystara, one in boring-ass Forgotten Realms. Dragonlance or (highly unlikely) Dark Sun, please?
