I was cool on Heroscape when it first came out as I was gaming Necromunda and Mordheim at the time with a dedicated group.
However, I did pick up a bunch of it last year to play with my 7 year old son and his friends and it is a _huge_ hit. (even done up some plastic vegetation and 'ruins' from cheap, clearanced aquarium accessories) In fact, my kids are just a bit older than Barnes' and I can guarantee he's going to be doing a 'HRP' before to long.
Anyway, I also dig the 'Secret Wars' vibe of everything being mixed up. We even do a little Star Wars as my son is a big Kit Fisto fan so we've got him and a unit of clone troopers (minis from WotC SW minis and fanmade unit cards).
Since we can scratch the Star Wars itch in our house (I'm not a big fan of SW and the few figs work for him) with Heroscape we got rid of Epic Duels. We found Epic Duels pretty repetitive and boring. Heroscape all the way!
Clix and heroscape would be an excellent marriage in theory. I stopped playing normal heroscape after rethemeing and designing cards for all my marvel clix I bought specifically for heroscape.
The game really came into its own as a super hero tactical game.
You could even use the clix rules on heroscape terrain with only minor tweaks, if you enjoy clix rules.
That said, this is WK we are talking about. They would attempt to market this as a blind buy in some way. They would have shitty distribution. Something would be subpar componentwise. In short, if WK were a more professional company, I could see this being a perfect marriage. But WK are not, so I would rather not see them bother at all.
