Wii U pad not charging

So, my son puts the pad on the charging cradle after every play. Today the pad no longer seems to charge. I've unplugged the power from the cradle straight into the pad and still no light or anything.

Anyone experience this?

We play on the weekends, so that means there are many days where the pad just sits in the cradle charging. Burning out the battery?

What gives here? Hopefully, it wasn't dropped and I'm unaware....

EDIT: apparently unplugging everything for a bit works and we are charging again. Still, do y'all constant charge when not playing? Does this shorten the battery's life?

To maximize battery life, you should always charge from empty to full and then remove from charger. Any activity outside of that serves to reduce battery life, especially just leaving it on the charger all the time when it's fully charged. I went through some cordless phones way too quickly by doing that.

You should be posting this on Nintendo's hardware issues forum. They have great customer service I think and support fot this stuff.

Mine, similarly, sits in the cradle all the time and doesn't get used that much, sometimes for a week or two at a time (although not lately). I've never had a problem during the year I've owned it. Could be something is wrong with yours.

I'm not sure that's right. It depends on the type of rechargeable battery, doesn't it?

Yeah, I think it does. for instance, I don't think this applies to smartphones or tablets cuz they have different batteries.

I was just guessing what White's problem was other than the obvious and likely user error

Barney's advice is more critical to certain types of batteries, but not a bad thing to keep in mind when dealing with any rechargeable.

Flip over your pad and see if the places where the metal teeth from the cradle hit the pad are caked over. A piece of lint, a crumb, or some sort of goo, can end up there and stop it from charging. Also check the cradle and manually trigger the teeth to extend. You could possibly have broken one, or they could just be dirty.

Isopropyl alcohol, a qtip, and about 10 minutes, and you can probably fix this issue.

So this says you don't want a full discharge with li-ion, I think.

Ken always gets a full discharge whether he wants it or not
