They were right about... Summoner Wars

Summoner Wars, I was so wrong. I thought you wouldn't be for me. I didn't like the artwork, I stupidly wrote you off when Faidutti, in his new defunkt games library, said something to the effect this was the best game he'd never play (because of the graphics), you were sold out most places around here anyway...

and then I played the "free iOS version" - yeah, the 'drug dealer' vesion where you get to play one faction free but of course you'll want more. Nice trick, that.

Now I have played many different factions and I have ordered the Master set and some other stuff.

This is the best game I have played in years.

I've sold and traded a lot of games over the years, and I have very few regrets. But I do regret trading away Summoner Wars. At the time it just wasn't getting played at all, like all two-player games. The money went towards the Wii U, so I guess that's a happy ending. Still, it's a really good game, one of the best two-player offerings out there.

I played it on the tablet, and the game devolved into the last two units moving back and forth either side of some central walls (because the first to close distance would lose). Kind of like those old WWF matches where the wrestlers would be hiding from each other behind the ref until Stone Cold Steve Austin would jump into the ring and beat one or the other of them with a folding chair. Except there was no folding chair, so I uninstalled it.

Stone Cold makes everything better. Even Summoner Wars.

Never really like it. Play it once in a while. The ranged attack rule creates situations that are weird to me, and in the end it's all about economy while waiting both decks deplete (preferably your enemy's first!).

I really enjoyed this game, but could never get anyone to play it with me. You have inspired me to try once again. Josh? Repo? UBA? Someone?

I've had the urge to play it for awhile now, I didn't think anyone else was interested in more. Yeah, I'd play it.

Tac-level infantry/armor wargame in different garb. Try Panzer Blitz next. SW reminds me of wargaming with my buddy back in the 70s.

my ultimate problem with summoner wars is that the best players seem to focus on killing their own starting units off as fast as possible in order to get the extra energy to spend. which just doesn't feel right to me. more my preconceptions than the game but it put me off it anyway.
