The New 'Arkham Horror'?

About five or six years ago, when the Trashdomes were going strong, there were jokes that AH would always win, so it shouldn't be put in a 'Dome.

Since then, tastes around here seems to have changed quite a bit. Is there any title that would clean up in all Dome's today? Cosmic Encounter maybe? Am I wrong and it'd still be AH?

I don't think there would be a dominant game at this time. Definitely not Arkham Horror, because it has lost some fans to Eldritch Horror, and also lost some general acclaim in recent years.

Spartacus. Gladiator. Blood and sand. King of the arena and Trashdome.

Spartacus is a good possibility. I would vote for Spartacus over most games.

Actually Battlestar Galactica was undeniably the king of trashdome. Pretty sure it even beat AH.

Mad Dog for the win.

Battlestar Galactica will mud-stomp pretty much any game to a bloody, wheezing pulp. Still.

Actually, BSG couldn't even beat Fury of Dracula, though it was close:

Yeah, and AH beat FoD and also Dune, Talisman and TI:3.

I don't think it ever lost..Many said it was their favorite game and I recall that someone mentioned nothing could beat it. But I am getting old, so maybe I don't recall correctly...

And Arkham Horror trounced Fury of Dracula:

fortressat.com/forum/32-trashdome/85809-...or?limit=10&start=40

And yet BSG somehow won when matched directly with Arkham Horror:

fortressat.com/forum/32-trashdome/60165-...ca?limit=10&start=30

BSG has too many flaws. The base game was very good, but the sympathizer mechanic caused balance problems. While expansions fixed the sympathizer issue, they tended to be very mixed in quality. I suppose that experienced players could cobble together a fun game out all the expansions by carefully cherrypicking which rules and mechanics to include, but I prefer the base game with the ideal number of players. But BSG has been a shelf toad at my house in recent years, while my friends still clamor to play Arkham Horror, year after year.

Looks like I voted for BSG simply because I didn't like AH and wanted to see it lose.

Still haven't played BSG...still don't like AH...seems some things never change...

Reading through the remarks, you weren't the only one who voted against Arkham just for the sake of voting against it. One guy voted as though the trashdome was Arkham Horror vs Call of Cthulhu, and others just wanted to see AH finally lose a trashdome.

Cosmic is a pretty good guess, I think. As much as I adore Wiz-War, cosmic is the only ffg game I can think of that beats it. And some days not.

Cosmic is fairly sancrosanct for those who even remotely enjoy it, it seems.
