Hmm, yeah mostly 2 types of ground unit, a vehicle and a titan. Those ships look sweet though. Number of minis look to few though.

I simply can't wrap my head around the fact that you always praise games that take aestethics into consideration, and at the same time you insist that well crafted sculpts like this are akin to "bubble gum toys". It's okay to not like miniatures, but that comparison and this one with the cheap toy soldiers too honestly make you seem like you don't know what the fuck you're talking about. But at the same time we all know that you do, so what's the point?

I would guess that his argument is that the minis don't add to the gameplay in a quantity that offsets the increased cost they incur.

I think this looks great. I see Barnes' criticism, but it's one he's been making the last year about all minis games. But of all the games with a great design engine to back up the minis, this one is a solid candidate.

Ork units are Kill Kroozers (big ships/cruisers) and what look like Ravagers (escorts), Gargants (titan), Battlefortresses (the big trukk things), Stormboyz (the jump pack-equipped model), and whatever the banner represents (Boyz?)
Marines are Battle Barges (big ship/battleship), Strike Cruisers (cruisers), Warlords (titans), Land Raiders, and whatever the banner and flag units represent (presumably Tac Marines and Scouts?)
Eldar are Warlocks (titans), Eclipses (big ship/cruisers), what look like Hellebores (escorts), and the banner units, which presumably represent Wraithguard/Wraithlords (since they're Iyanden) and Aspect Warriors. I don't see anything to compete with the Land Raiders (which would be Falcons or Fire Prisms) or Battlefortresses (which would be Scorpions or Storm Serpents), so it's possible that the difference in gameplay extends rather deeply to army composition, as well.
Chaos has Despoilers (big ship/battleships) and what could be Iconoclasts (escorts), although the pic is too blurry to confirm. The titans are almost certainly Banelords although they could be Ravagers, but I'm not sure what the large two-headed ground unit is, plus whatever the banner units are (presumably Khorne Berzerkers; plastic for the plastic god.)

It's a Chaos Helbrute (AKA renamed Dreadnought). It just looks like it has two heads because the pic is blurry; there's a better pic on TOS where it can be seen more clearly . They even use essentially the same pose as the Helbrute mini from the WH40K: Dark Vengeance starter.

You should trade your X-Wing collection in for that. You would make a fortune off of it and there would be no game loss whatsoever since the systems are pretty much equal.

I understand the argument that minis are "stupid" because they increase the cost and don't really add to gameplay. But saying that there's no difference between bubble gum figures and minis like these is like saying that there's no reason to hire a professional illustrator to do a game when a six-year old can make equally usable work.

Starcraft was what...$80, $90 when it came out? If this is indeed a re-do of Starcraft (and we're all saying it is, right?), I'm not really not seeing where $10 more about 7 years later equates to the hobby going down the shitter. And don't give me that tired "Kickstarter is setting the standard" BULLSHIT. Games were $60-$90 then, games released in retail pretty much still are. Anyone saying otherwise, please. You're embarrassing yourselves.

If this is what it looks like, I'm down. Starcraft was cool, the card combat never really did it for me though (and I like card combat). It was a motherfucker to teach, so if this is streamlined, cool.

PS-Minis are unnesseary, but still rule. Still totally happy with Imperial Assault. Sorry for not being cool, everyone.

PPS- You all play X-Wing, so fuck right off with this shit.

The game looks absolutely beautiful.
The preview from FFG shows so much promise for this to be a great DOAM.

Conclusion: Must have

Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

It looks promising to me as well, though this preview doesn't give us a sense of its most fundamental mechanics yet besides the Starcraft orders system. The warp storm manipulation looks kind of cool.

Personally, I don't really care much about miniatures on my games much. They are cool, I guess, and it's not like replacing them for cardboard or game pieces wouldn't present problems but I really don't feel like I need them in my games. I do not enjoy a game more because it has minis in it.

Guess I'm weird.
