BOBA FETT ORIGIN TALE IS REPORTEDLY THE SECOND STAR WARS ANTHOLOGY FILM

11.2k Director Josh Trank left the project last week.
BY JIM VEJVODAThose long-standing rumors may in fact prove true: Boba Fett is reportedly getting his own movie.

TheWrap claims that the Boba Fett standalone movie will be Disney's second planned Star Wars Anthology film, the new designation for all non-Episode, spinoff and standalone films as announced by Lucasfilm at Star Wars Celebration last month.

Above is true, however,

IT'S A TRAP

If you clicked this thread go get your geek card laminated.

I knew about this already (so I guess my geek card is already laminated too) and I felt dread instead of excitement. The news is 20 years too late for me... but I'm still mildly interested. I have a feeling that they'll make him too nice a guy for some reason though.

I love Boba Fett, always have. A lot of the time I hear people telling me that loving Boba Fett is stupid because he doesn't even really do anything (all lies, he does at least one awesome thing in predicting what Han will do when he escapes with the trash) and that people simply love him because of the cool costume. Well I agree he is totally a fifth business character I don't think there is anything wrong with loving him because of his cool costume. I mean, this is Star Wars we're talking about here.... cool costumes are the name of the game. Of course I just love him because of the cool costume (and the mystery of not knowing much about him), that's what loving characters in SW as a kid is all about.

I'm also excited to get a copy of him for Imperial Assault when the time comes.

It's cheesy, but I actually think doing spin off movies on minor characters everyone thinks is cool is a great idea for Star Wars.

Like the Marvel films I'm sure not every Anthology film will be great, but I doubt they'll all be bad. I'll certainly end up watching all of them to find out which are the good ones.

@ Gary Sax

Imagine the Jar Jar Binks backstory movie. They could get Ryan Reynolds to put on the Jar Jar suit. You could be on to something.

But seriously, the one I would most like to see made after Boba Fett is Jaba the Hutt. THAT could be way cool. but who would they get to play Jaba?

Oh yeah, you know they will. He's not a BAD guy - his woman is held in slavery and he's forced to do villianous jobs to save her. Or some other "doing it for a noble reason" cliche. You know they won't go the hardcore villian protagonist route because it's targeted as family fare. Bounty killers, slave traders, and scumbags need gritty treatment to function well IMO. Which means they should have left it alone. Besides, Lucas already fucked him up way back at the Sarlacc pit and then went and fucked EVERYTHING up with his insipid prequels. Couldn't they leave it alone and let us use our uh... imaginations again instead of trying to explain what needn't be? No, because the Mouse is a supermassive black hole that only consumes megacredits.

Why not create a NEW bounty hunter guy (or lady) that's super cool? That might require some imagination.

This is going to be super dumb.

Boba Fett fans are going to find a new definition of pain and suffering as they slowly digest teasers and setbacks over a thousand years

There's money in the popular characters, so this kind of thing is inevitable. However, as said by others above, it's the mystery of a character that gives it appeal. I never wanted to know the details of Anakin Skywalker, but I got them anyway. The same definition-becomes-blandness will happen to Boba Fett. I'd rather see a movie about someone who isn't so mysterious (Wedge Antilles, perhaps), because then we could just relax and enjoy the story.
