I suddenly have a wild hair to go all-in on this. Assuming I'm right about the 2.5 thing, should I just buy up the 2.5 armies? (All I have at the moment is the base set and Babel 13.)
Alternatively, should I just go ahead and go full 3.0? It wouldn't be the first time I've bought a game twice, and I have no problem putting some extra cash in Portal Games' pockets.
What say you? Buy all the 2.5 armies, buy all the 3.0 everything, or just take a pill and lie down until the feeling goes away?

Way back when, I was deciding between NH and Manoeuvre and ultimately I went with Manoeuvre... a game I love the more I play it. In fact, about 5 months ago I actually whittled the shelf down to 5 boardgames and Manoeuvre made the cut. I realize that I prefer games that have a low variety of components and that I feel like I get better at over time (TITAN, Britannia, Manoeuvre, Empire Builders, etc) and I think NH is still a good candidate for this.
(here's the old thread: fortressat.com/forum/32-trashdome/86609-...ima-hex-vs-manoeuvre )
I'd like to know a little bit more about the differences between the editions. I imagine they play the same, so share thoughts on the more shallow stuff. Which has the better board? Art? Base game package?

The 3.0 mode of 2v1 is really awesome as well, although you could do that in 2.5 too.
I'd recommend going through the BGG art of each version, thinking about whether you would mind using 3.0 expansion armies with your 2.5 stuff, and then make a decision.

The one thing that DOESN'T sit well with me is that the more recent army expansions are printed on cheaper, thinner stock, so they don't have the same fit and finish as the earlier work.
If you want to start more slowly, Babel 13 is the one must-have. New York is one of the best factions, in my opinion.

The 3.0 board looks like it takes place in and around a city. This makes more sense. I know it doesn't matter, but this would scale the pieces out to unit level as opposed to the individual level of the 2.5 junkyard.
Am I interpreting this right?

2.5 has a better box cover, its amazing how some people react when you pull out the box of 3.0 with its techno nazi on the cover.
2.5. imo has better tiles. I just prefer the thick border art style, though the 3.0 tiles are slightly thicker.
imo i had a 2.5 expansion with my 3.0 game. Stop being OCD and just get the expansions, it's just art style.

Looks like 3.0 is the one for me.
Are there only two expansion armies out for it (for a total of 7)? Do they all fit in the basegame box?
