Definitely one of my favorite elements too. Manufacturing whatever the scarce resource contextual to a given game can be great fun.

the black b side is a action that banishes on of your mages to wound a mage for 0 mana. We play by the 2 player setup in the book, 7 mages 9 rooms infirmary B side. If there is any room that rewards immediately that spell is so bonkers. 2 immediate reward placements later its a mage in the office and 4 gold.

I get the value of influence, having lost 4 points and then the 6 / 6 tie on it in one game, but I have also managed to win on gaining 2 influence on the game. That's 2p, would need to play the strat more at 3. That is with the other player ending with 3 merit badges. So some serious investment in IP. Its powerful, and you take some lumps for not getting it, but I think you can totally do low IP and win.

I know I'm digging up this thread, but I played this past weekend, and it looks like I'm playing again tomorrow night. Good times.

With second edition coming out, has anyone here tried using marks as the first tie-breaker for voters? As in, ties for a voter go first to the player who placed a mark on the voter, then goes to IP if there are no marks or multiple tied players with marks. I know that rule has been incorporated into the game, and I think it might smooth out my one minor issue with the game.

Hmmm. . . You would have to find a way to remember who was the first the place a mark, which could get difficult.

I don't think there is a problem with the game here. You just have to realize the importance of IP from the beginning.

The new tie-breaker rules don't track who marked a voter first. Just that players who have marked that voter win ties against anyone who didn't.

If two players both marked the voter and are tied, IP is the next tie-breaker.

I haven't played with it, but it seems like a reasonable change.

Could be a good change. IP is too powerful and tie break is powerful enough BY ITSELF to merit investing in IP much less all the other great stuff it does.

We pull the influence voters from the game, which is trying to weaken IP. A different way.

Sax, you should try leaving the "Second Most Influence" voter in but pulling the "Most".

If you find the voter when marking, you can decide if you want to sandbag for that vote. Since you usually play 2p it might turn out very interesting. Or it might totally suck.

I think the 2nd edition tie-breaker is a good way of adjusting the importance of IP. Extra actions, tie-breaking voters and guaranteed 1 out of the 12 total VP in one commodity? Sign me up, every time.
