I didn't realize that there are two versions of BB-8, and Target only has the cheaper Hasbro model (which still looks great). So I'm heading to Best Buy to hopefully grab the Sphero version.

Also, heads up that my Target was not carrying any of the Risk game. I'll check Walmart, but I wonder if that might be exclusive to Toys R Us or something.

Risk is available at Target online, just "not sold in stores". THANKS FOR THAT.

The black edition does look like the only real upgrades are the Executor, the Falcon and the Death Star.

The Hasbro BB-8 is bigger and is more of a conventional remote control toy- it has a little pad controller and whatnot. I think it's $80. The Sphero one is controlled by Bluetooth and an app, I think it works more like those high-end RC dinosaurs and whatnot- programmable, multiple functions and so forth. But it is also $150, and it's much smaller.

Looking over at eBay...yep, that thing is already selling for $250-$400. I knew it would be the "hot" item, especially after all the press yesterday about it being the best thing out of the lot. I didn't see any at Target.

I don't want to check Amazon all day for the next couple of days to see if it's up for the two minutes it will be available before selling out. They should have done preorders on this or something.

I'll probably just get the $30 edition and see what happens with the black one.

We're fed up in Europe not knowing what year or even if it will show up here ... as usual. For Star Wars Risk Original Trilogy I ended up getting a FATie to ship it over for me, it finally showed up in our stores about 9 months later I think.

UPDATE:
I have to take it all back, it is at ToysRus in the UK - just (as usual) at nearly double the price, around $55. So if the Black edition isn't worth $50 should us ripped-off Brits be paying $55 for the normal game ? We do get bloody screwed on pricing over here.

I'll just wait and hope that the lack of interest in board games in the UK means it will be on sale in a few months ... or maybe I just miss out (and stick with Queens Gambit).

Got the standard version at GameStop of all places. Had trade credit, so I paid $0 for it.

They had BB-8s, but one guy bought every one they had.

No. Buy it used in a few months for $30.

Everything is more expensive in England. I learned on my trips over there to stop converting prices to U.S. Dollars, because it was depressing as hell.

You do have national health care though, so there are some benefits.

Children have to realize that an old nerds nostalgia is more important than their joy.

That wasn't nostalgia. That was a business decision.

You can order them direct from the Spheros web site (with a 2 week wait, so it doesn't work if you need it RIGHT NOW) with it looks like free shipping. Tested with Paypal (didn't finalize it) to see and there was no shipping charge added.
