Worked like a charm for Battleship Galaxies.

But I agree on the motivation. Why build new IP when there are two others with super-high recognition value (Star Wars, Risk)?

If I recall, the MSRP for Battleship Galaxies was $65 and the MSRP for Star Wars Risk is $29.99. It's a completely different demographic.

For what it's worth, I still think Battleship Galaxies was both really fun and ahead of its time.

Yeah Battleship Galaxies was good. It's a shame it never got an expansion.

That was such a lost opportunity.

All analogies fall apart under scrutiny, but clearly the motivation was to take an "unknown" product and tie it into something that had high name recognition. I agree that the Risk comparison is weak because of differences in price point and familial similarity. Back to the regularly scheduled thread.

I still think it was a stupid move. There's NOTHING about this game and Risk that are similar, except theme, and even that is questionable. I think that people tend to rely too much on brand recognition, but the funny thing here is that Risk's very strong brand is like a boil on a dog's bollocks compared to Star Wars' brand.

They could've called this ANYTHING and if it said "Star Wars: GAME" it would've sold just as well. Hell, maybe the Risk name actually hurts it more than it helps because while there's many people who love Risk and also love Star Wars, there's a LOT more people who love Star Wars and don't like (or actively despise) Risk.

I disagree. The combat system is almost exactly the same.

Nice! I think I've been using all those rules except for TIE fighter attacks on the same turn they deploy from The Executor. That will be a nice edge for the Empire.

It's unlike any Risk game I've ever played. There is no classic 3 attack dice vs. 2 defense dice in Star Wars Risk. You simply roll your attack d6s and try to hit set target numbers.

True, but the idea that there is an upper limit on the attack dice (5 in SW) no matter how many armies (ships) are in the space. OK, maybe it's a bit of a reach. . .

The only similarity this game has to Risk is that you can never fit all the fucking pieces you want to have into one space.

This argument is old news, why are we still having it?
