#1: The Board Game
boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/182896/john-...lord-mars-board-game

#2 Modiphius (Stylized to look really lame) has created an RPG (looks like an update of the old RPG)...
• In the category of "I missed it at the time" comes the July 2015 announcement from Mōdiphiüs Entertainment of a series of licensed games featuring Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter, whose adventures I passed over many times in the Poughkeepsie, NY used book store that I frequented for most of my SF/fantasy reading materials. For now three items are in the offing for this John Carter universe:

#3 ....BUT NOW HAS A MINIATURE RANGE AND SKIRMISH GAME!
—John Carter: The Roleplaying Game, due out in Dec. 2015: "Explore the wonders of Barsoom from the vast deserts to the ancient cities. Discover the forgotten secrets of a world that was old when life first spawned in the oceans of Earth. Play as pilots, warriors, scientists, or one of the terrifying green Tharks. Create you own Barsoom adventures or take on the great journeys as John Carter himself along side Dejah Thoris, Kantos Kan, Xodar, Tars Tarkas, Thuvia of Ptarth, Carthoris of Helium or any of the other major heroes and heroines of Barsoom."

—John Carter: Swords of Mars, due Q2 2016: "A line of collectible miniatures for use with the roleplaying game brings your adventures to the battlefield. Play small skirmishes or fight a war for the dying planet-scalable rules provide for both. Defend ruins against a horde of Tharks, raid the city of Helium to capture the Princess, or take your...

Awesome. I have been trying to get a copy of the 1979 John Carter game for a while. But why announce a minis range and a boardgame without pictures?

Though I like the one John Carter book I read, and enjoyed the film, I get exhausted by these product blitzes for every genre franchise.

Do we really need the rpg, boardgame, deckbuilder, CCG, minis game, 2-player game, t-shirt, videogame, flamethrower (even if the kids love it...), etc. for every line out there?

I know, I know "Who am I to say what others should buy?", "Well, if there's a market.." and all that, but to me I feel like overall these things aren't additions, but negatives. I feel the overall result is the watering down of a work.

Maybe it's just me. I usually only prefer the pure original vision of a piece as intended.

Anyway, carry on...

And another thing...FLAVORED ice cream. When will the madness stop. How can the human mouth even taste 31 flavors, it makes no sense. I don't even know what a "Butter Brickle" is other than something that is most likely sinful. What's wrong with simple vanilla and telling the kids to use the power of their imagination to sample (within reason) other flavors?
