Barney,

I guess you could never game with the cops of Twin Peaks.

I actually had the guards kill quite a few people that did this. I remember this one guy, John, who was eating donuts during a game of Diplomacy. He never played that game again.

Hey I hear that kid left acting after Purple Wedding. I wonder what turned him off.

If Jim Gaffigan kept acting after being cast as a pedophile clown, you'd think Joffrey Baratheon wouldn't kill the actor.

He's SUPER nice too.

Don't watch the Board with Life episode that features a dude nicknamed Sticky Chris. On second thought:

I could not help but see Richard Simmons playing the role of the second actor when I read this...

I think it was a temporary quit to attend college, but I may be wrong.

I'm always a little relieved when our group plays one of our host's games because if someone else brings a game everyone starts jabbering as soon as the rules explanation starts, guaranteeing a missed rule (or several) and bitter recriminations later. Usually I or my friend are the ones to bring a game and the rules explanation ambivalence is so common that we've developed a tacit symbiotic relationship where if one of us notices the group ignoring an important rule the other will acknowledge that the rule was officially delivered verbally and keep going. That's usually only invoked in the most extreme cases of explanation ignoring because I'm not out to screw over the other players by glossing over important information, but damn, pay attention when I'm trying to teach the game!

Mine is my wife winning almost every game the first time we play. It is going to make me a poor winner if that ever happens.

That one guy that eats Taco Bell and pickled eggs on game night and uses the fog of war to gain a tactical advantage.

Reaction videos. They happen far more frequently in videogames than boardgames, but boardgame reaction videos are always about news.

I hate it when you go to a certain website and someone describes playing this Ameritrash classic that really only works "with the right group of people" who just happen to be five of their amazingly funny good friends, and they describe the trash talking, camaraderie, yelling and general excitement, and it sounds like it's more fun than the final game of the world series or something, and then everyone collapses in a drunken heap, covered in Cheeto dust and surrounded by dice.

It took me a long time to realize that I was reading Ameritrash Porn and that no adult really has five close, fun, friends who like to play boardgames. Nice try, FATTIES, you had me going there for a decade or so.

Last edit: 25 Nov 2015 15:48 by Cranberries. Reason: Added a carefully researched illustration of an actual FATTIE gathering.

Well, one more pet peeve is review videos on not yet completed Kickstarter titles. Rahdo seems to do this the most. just call it a promo and be done with it.

on that last point Dave, this "news release" on that boardgame cafe.... that's basically just a kickstarter ad in disguise, yes?

Rahdo says he doesn't review games. Though with every run-through having a Final Thoughts video, it could be argued he's wandering into sophistry with that claim. I'd like to think he believes what he says, though.

It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.
