CRAP.YESYESYESYES

Coming mid October!

Compatible with first edition? Who knows. Who cares. #justgetit

Compatibility update: "As for the compatibility of Widow's Walk with the existing editions of Betrayal at House on the Hill — both the original from 2004 and the 2010 second edition — Michael Robles, Community Manager at developer Lone Shark Games, has noted on Reddit that the expansion "is compatible with all editions"."

I am automatically going to buy this, but I hope that they did a better job of playtesting this time around.

Well well well. I'll be a mongoose.

I bought the first edition on clearance at TRU and flipped it after working through a majority of the betrayals. Lets just say I made enough profit to buy another four games....

Might need to pick up another copy.

Holy fucking shit....

Talk about unexpected. Still this game is probably an annual seller for them. They must have figured that so many people bought the base game that if they can get X% of them to buy a new expansion it will make them a tidy profit. That or they're just batshit insane over there at Hasbro/WoTC.

Even if I didn't want this (I totally do), I'd buy one probably just as a spit in the face of anyone complaining about Zoe Quinn and Anita Sarkeesian being involved (which is already totally happening because people are shit). Oh well, if they're pissed, fine, I'm smiling.

Chris Dupuis is a pal and worked on Dungeon Command.

I only played the original once and it was okay. Do I need to fix that?

Post haste! The honest truth (from first edition) was that they could be hit or miss. So long as you're gaming with the right crowd (and really, why the hell wouldnt you be?), this game should be a hit most times and if it goes wrong then it's usually at least quick. First edition required a bit of ruling on the fly after the Haunt started, but you deal.

I have, but have not yet played, 2nd edition. Any fatties want to speak on its improvements?

As printed, the first edition was a bit messy because the individual scenario rules were sometimes missing key details. It was probably a tough game to proof because of the number of possible scenarios and combinations of map layouts. However, the core rules were solid and simple, and the individual cards were fine. Still, even with fully-errated rules for all the scenarios, Betrayal is an unreliable game. I always enjoy the exploration in the first half of the game, but apparently some fun-murdering people don't like it because it's too random for meaningful decisions. After the haunt is revealed, the game can be really good or really bad. The difference depends almost entirely on the layout of the house, the location of the characters and the health of those characters at the moment that the haunt is revealed. If you play twice in a row, there is a good chance that one of the games will be fun.

I concur, the exploration's pretty fun, but once the haunt's revealed it's a crapshoot. Sometimes one side wins immediately, other times it's too lopsided and one side has no chance whatsoever. "We just need to find the spear before he reaches the cellar!" Good luck with that.
