So....I really like the setting, but I am trying to determine if I need another adventure game.

As anyone here played it? I've seen a couple good reviews, but I trust the Fort denizens a little more.

Cheers

That was one that I saw. I feel better about the opinion now.

Haven't heard of it. What's the gist? Judging by the title I'm hoping for a Fallout-inspired post-apoc adventure game. Or one involving sanitation workers. Man, how great would a board game version of this movie be?

I love it. It's an Arkham Horror-ish sprawling adventure game with a Mad Max love song setting.

The only thing I'd caution is that it's long and heavy, and that the rulebook is very dense. It's a translation and the English isn't horrible by any means, but it's not done by a native speaker. Every once in awhile you'll spot little grammar mistakes and odd phrasings.

But there are a lot of rules. It doesn't feel as heavy as the rulebook suggests when you play it though.

I pulled the trigger on it. I felt my resolve slipping away as the sales countdown was running out at Mini Market.

I'm guessing your review was one I read, Charlest.

Yeah, I haven't seen anyone else review it yet. I got a copy direct from the publisher last year and it instantly won me over.

If you hate it, you can come on here and bitch me out.

This is one of the reasons I am happy to be a part of this forum. Competent and intelligent opinions that help me spend money I shouldn't.

So, Charlie, what does this do differently from other adventure games? I see that your opponent choose your encounter, which is similar to Android but without having a hand (hence, reducing book-keeping).

Yes the "Waster" role is similar to Android. Basically, the farther you move the more cards another player draws and he has to play one during your movement. That's really cool and the encounters are great. You get like Cyborg Centaurs, huge ass bugs, typical raiders, or a sentient AI tank with lasers that roams the desert.

The scenarios are all very interesting. You're fighting off cults, trying to capture a woman, etc.

The characters themselves are one of the main selling points. You have a special ability, unique stats, and equipment slots you can place stuff in (reminds me a bit of diablo). Your starting equipment is printed on the character sheet which is a nice touch and further differentiates characters.

Tracking fuel and radiation is clever.

The combat systems is something I love but Michael would likely hate. It's a little Forbidden Stars-ish in that you each play a card over three rounds. It's abstracted and you can either close range or maintain or spread farther apart (you can be close, medium, or long relative range from each other).

Certain weapons function better at different ranges.

You also play a card to either attack or defend or change range. I think there's another option or two (it's been a several months since I've played). It's detailed and will bog the game down with 4 players. With 2 or 3 it's not bad.

So, I'd say setting (I don't know of any other true Post apocalyptic adventure games like this), huge selection of unique characters, awesome scenario system, and the Waster role.

The Waster role and that combat system are the two unique elements. Everything else (such as visiting locations for a benefit, spending fuel to travel, etc.) are mechanisms derived from other games.

All this talk is making me want to break this out again. That's the big downside to this game (rules heft). I'd have to re-read the rules since I haven't played it in 8 or so months. I remember the gist of it but not the details of specific subsystems or how you refill the equipment stalls and so on.
