A couple months ago I was thrifting with my son and he spotted a bunch of rolled of posters in a hamper. They were high quality on thick paper and they were all home video advertisements from the early 80's for new releases. There was stuff I recognized, like
Mr. Mom, and little-remembered fare like
Tender Mercies. But my son spotted the one of the two gems in the lot, a 12" x 24" ad for
Mad Max:
It's hanging in my gaming/hobby room. I also snagged a sweet 27" x 41" poster for
The Dark Crystal but I've yet to find a frame for it and I don't even know where I could find space to hang it.
This year my son wanted to go as Ash Williams (Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness, Ash Vs. Evil Dead) for Halloween and he requested a boomstick as his accessory (assuming that a chainsaw hand wasn't going to happen), but I wanted to see if I could find a budget chainsaw hand build that I could accomplish. I finally settled on
this
design and last night we built it and this is the final result:
The blood dried maroon (the pics were taken when it was just out of the tube) but I'm pleased with it. The blade is from an old electronic chainsaw prop I had lying around and the starting cord reel is made from the disposable filter on a respirator mask.
