DOOM boardgame returns from Hell!

I played Doom a year or two ago and had a lot of fun. I haven't played any of the Doom games since Doom 2 though, and the new aesthetic isn't doing much for me. Also, is there a massive artwork disconnect between the sterile-looking tiles they keep showing and the minis+cards, or is it just me?

Still interested to hear how it plays though.

Why hasn't anyone done that, flipped the all against one thing like that were the players are the bad guys and the "overlord" is the hero?

There's a game called Hunt for the Ring coming where one player is the Hobbits trying to get from the Shire to Bree and the other four players are Nazgul trying to find them.

The thing that interests me the most is how the marines work. It seems they will be able to chain actions from five cards (although only two or so can be major actions). That could means some funky acrobatics.

My former gf (now wife) and I used to play Doom bg to death. She always played the invaders. Since I was generally better in this type of games than her, the asymmetry worked great, and we both enjoyed it a lot.

I am not excited at all about this, though. There's really not much to be excited about. The mechanics seem to be a Descent variation and there are dozens of similar games already. And what Barnes said about miniatures. Big part of hype for a new FFG release used to be the toys. With this GW's resurgence, not anymore. I can't imagine spending 75$ on a box full of "bubble-gum" figs, while I could have something like Betrayal at Calth for 150 and, from what I read, cleaner and faster gameplay than FFG does.

Eric Lang did it with The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – Journey to the Lonely Mountain Strategy Game. The evil players have a common goal (stop Frodo) but can also screw each other over by seizing individual win conditions.

More typically I think players prefer narratives about defeating a great evil, than being minion scrubs.

Yep - it's a great game.

I played it 4 years ago for the first time in maybe 5 years. I promptly traded it away. I really wanted to like it but it's a dinosaur of a design that's since been surpassed by so many Dudes in a Hallway (Dudes in a Corridor?) games.
