Genre Naming Conclave- "Dudes Against Dudes" Games

OK, so one of the greatest contributions that F:AT has given the world is the term "Dudes on a Map" to describe, well, that kind of game. Over the years, we modified that to "Dudes in a Hall" to describe dungeoncrawlers. But now, with a bumper crop of skirmishy miniatures games out (like Conan, TMNT, Adrenaline, Burning of Prospero, The Others, Doom and so forth) we need to come up with a new term for them because they aren't really "in a hall" and aren't dungeoncrawls at all, really.

So I am moving that we start calling these games "Dudes Against Dudes" games. I think it captures, like "Dudes on a Map", pretty much everything you need to know about what to expect from the design in question.

I could see that.
Dudes in a Hall implies constricted movement. Landmark example is Space Hulk.
Dudes on a Map implies some area control. Landmark example is Nexus Ops.
Dudes against Dudes... the above examples and even something like Dungeon Command.

I have jokingly referred to AmeriTrash games in general as dude-killing games.

Friends Against Friends seems more friendly.

i think Guy on Guy would be a better acronym (GoG) than DAD.

Who wants some Guy on Guy action? Think about how much more fun this will make the WBGHYBP thread.

That description makes me think of Diplomacy. Dudes against dudes is more clear, unless somebody screws up and call it "dudes on dudes."

Even after reading Michael's post I still don't know what Dudes Against Dudes means. Why not come up with something original that better says what you're talking about instead of another variation of DoaM?

Because Ken B. would have wanted it this way.

Just a quick clarification to check my understanding, DaD games are where the number of dudes only changes through deaths (unlike DoaMs where you tend to gain dudes through controlling areas or achieving things), and the map is of less relevance (like DiaC games).

I was thinking that it would be scenario-based skirmish games, man to man level stuff.

Hombres contra Hombres?
