I think Battletech is a little more complex than I'd like for my giant robots battle game.

I thought that was why BattleTech came out with that Alpha Strike rule set--to make classic BattleTech simpler and playable with a lance to lance battle in about 30 minutes? I guess it never caught on?

Alpha Strike just doesn't feel very exciting in play. For fast & light mech battles I still prefer Armor Grid Mech Attack to anything else I've found.

Rant time. Fast forward to the end for the point.
I like being inclusive, (the more reasonable ways to play, the better) but few thing rub me more raw than the vociferous few on BGG who run to every game entry with the query "Can it be played solo?".
I get especially white knuckled when I see this expectation on extremely adversarial games. The kind of games where satisfactory solo play would be a ridiculous expectation due to the inherent requirement of a human adversary by design, and the adversarial choices being such that an A.I. would require its own massive new game design.
For this reason, I grow to despise those who creep onto forums, demanding such, as if they are the main demographic whose expectations need to be tended to.
Go to Craigslist and meet up with a meeple-sexual, and play a game the way it was intended, you stunted minimus of a man-child.
Tl;Dr
When a KS uses an entire stretch goal just for solo rules, it makes me question the entire project from a game design perspective.
Because now the tightening of the game design and rules as it stands is delayed by attempting to slap a design onto it that was never, and should never have been a part of the design in the first place.
It suffers by trying to please a couple dozen very loud crybabies. [/endrant]

That is ridiculous. There are precious few games I have ever considered to be worth the effort to set up solo. Video games just stomp all over board games when played solo. Pun intended.

Battlemech was rather impossible for me. Have to track how far your mech moved and the weapons!
The KS is not really interesting... the scenery just don't look that interesting, and the support mechs are samey, and the quantity allows no customization.
