GW publishing new edition of Talisman

Kind of thinking about selling my full FFG collection in favor of this. There's so much content that is...kind of just there. I sort of wouldn't mind just rebooting.

And making like $500.

It doesn't interest me, but I think a world where you can always buy Talisman is a good thing. I have the full set of Relic, and that suits me just fine.

I think it is hilarious that many of this site being hard on FFG for the cost of their bloated games with all the plastic and chrome and yet people will buy GW Talisman (and other GW boardgames) because hey have nice (fantastic) minis .... didn't realize, after all my years here, that a boardgame was a better game to play if it had quality miniatures

I tend to agree, at least in a case like this, where the miniature is really nothing more than a pawn. This game would be the same if you used the hat from Monopoly.

I (personally) trust FFG design with this game more than GW. Though I'm sure the minis will be much better.

Looks like the game is set to release this December alongside 6 expansions. It reads like the 6 expansions will also be ready to go, but that seems pretty ambitious unless they're just trotting out repainted or already developed and existing expansions.

Like I've said, I'm not sure GW needs to push out another generic fantasy edition of the game. They need a new twist. I still say AoS. Make it.... Talisman: The Quest for Ghal Maraz.

I can't imagine they'd drop it with six expansions day one...more likely they have a schedule to roll them out.

I hope it is Mortal Realms. I'm not as interested in a generic fantasy deal.

Who would be? There's been 4 very good editions of generic fantasy flavour and the most recent was very comprehensive and still readily available.

I can't see the market for a generic fantasy Talisman being that large at the moment. Seems a bit saturated.

AoS Talisman though....lots of opportunity to cross pollinate the characters with their new AoS WHQ line, the upcoming Shadespire boardgame, AoS proper, etc.

That's the same art they used with Black Industries (GW) published the original 4th edition. At least that piece is theirs. I hope it's fake news though and we get the mortal realms. Hopping between the board regions via realmgates to the various realms would fit the gameplay perfectly.

Yeah, but they do kind of talk about it in generic terms- "the city", "dragon's realm"...I wonder how much of the FFG edition they own...they could have the whole thing for all we know right now. Or they could have worked out a sale or arrangement of FFG's material. We just don't know. The fact that they mention the "dragon's realm" or whatever is highly suggestive...because that was a FFG expansion...

But you are right, the Mortal Realms would be PERFECT for it, with expansions keyed to realms. I think this is going to wind up being generic fantasy.

Ok, well, the answer is right here on my phone. I thought I'd fire up a game of Talisman ad it clearly states that all characters, illustrations, contents, etc etc are the property of GW, 1985-2017. The most important part- the IOS/PC game uses ALL of the FFG material without mentioning FFG anywhere.

I think that's the answer there...this is going to be a GW-branded version of what FFG did. GW appears to own the whole thing.

If they are just re-releasing the FFG under their brand....I don't see how this can be a big seller. Granted I don't have the numbers, but was Talisman selling so much this late in its cycle that GW feels the need to roll out more?

Maybe, maybe, I'd reconsider revisiting the base game and reaper only if there were GW quality minis in the FFG version of the game. Those terrible FFG minis really put me off...to the point I opted to use pawns:
