Fans probably know most of this, but it's interesting to see awesome ameritrash make the front page.

I thought this was going to be about the band Slayer. Then when I saw Buffy in the headline, I thought, "Did they do music for that show?"

Lol -- that is what I thought too. I was so disappointed when I got to the article.

Strangely I thought why is the Buffy boardgame featuring on the NYTimes front page - the Ameritrash description pushed me to that (I've never heard of, well not by name, the band Slayer).

Disappointed there was no mention of Tom Araya.

i still don't get what the article is about or has to do with Ameritrash. I'm just happy it's not about that stoopid heavy metal group

There was a good Buffy game published by Milton-Bradley in 2000, and that game was definitely AmeriTrash. The four scenarios in that game matched up to the first four seasons of the show. And there was another Buffy game published just last year that is also AmeriTrash in style. And there will be a Legendary Buffy game later this year, though it will be another stupid deckbuilder, just like all the other Legendary games.

ah cool, and the article talking about the board game? I think MB did my favorite Dune game too, although it may have been Parker Brothers, I can't remember. It felt super Ameritrashy too. It was awful what you could do to your opponents.

Did the Buffy game have anything in or around Alyson Hannigan's character? That was my favorite. "Ok Barney, it's your turn. What does your character want to do?" "I'm going to play "Kiss the Girls" again"

It's funny how much I didn't even begin to think about that. I apologize for inadvertently creating metal head "click bait", or what some might call: "fake news".

As for the "ameritrash" label, perhaps my definition is a bit broader than others. I do not limit my use of the term to games, but include other things that are both "trashy" and "American". Could be a game but also could be a movie (Terminator) a TV show (Buffy) or even music (Slayer).

So just to be sure this has nothing to do about the Buffy game, which was another one in the Rob Daviau stable - great chunky dice (like SW:Queens Gambit) and very themey although characters not that balanced (Spike was pretty weak and one of my bad dudes was beaten up by Willow one game), but still a very good game.

Just to clarify a bit further: If the guys in Slayer were a bunch of geeks, which episode of "Buffy" would be their favorite board game?
