I bought as soon as I got the email announcing pre-orders, so hopefully I'm good as well. I just saw some pictures online of the box contents... the terrain looks great.

I'm thinking of making the following list for Imperial Guards. This is intended for 1000 pts matches, not the campaign.

Sargent: Bolt Pistol and Chainsword
Sniper: Rifle + Toxic Rounds + laspistol
Grenadier: launcher + laspistol
Heavy guy: Plasma Gun
4 Veteran Guards with a Lasgun each

Suggestions are welcome!

Excellent.

New printed book incoming. AND it will include sisters of battle and inquisition forces, on top of the already available expanded forces from the PDF.

Now I don't even remotely feel bad about missing the box.

Wow... coming out with a better rule book than I get with the game, BEFORE I even get the game. That is very poor taste.

FUUUUUUUCK...Sisters of Battle...that is my favorite 40k faction...maybe they will do some plastic kits for it. I used to have a bunch of Sisters...and I flipped a Canonness about a month ago for $45...might should have kept it.

The box is still a deal for the terrain- Doc's is selling the kits for $130, so it's still a $30 savings. The book will probably be $30 or so. Not a big dea really.

I want a do over on my Tau team. Anybody want to buy my half-painted gang? I was going to do the white scheme but I just can't quite pull off the look I want. They can probably be cleaned up and made tabletop, or give them the Simple Green bath.

Set is built for for SW:A, not 40k, so it had two Shas'ui options, two Ion Rifles, two Rail guns, and four standard dudes with carbines. All three drones are with the set. $23 shipped. This is all you need apart from optional special operatives.

I get it. But considering how GW has operated with their rule books since 4th ed 40k, you always get a barebones, but serviceable rule book in a game, and then the better rule book is separate purchase. Usually more lush in illustrations and fluff. So it's not too shocking.

GW did state on the Facebook page that these new unit entries will be available as a free download so that those who purchased the box set aren't left behind.

Yeah, I get that. But it's nice to have in one place. Oh well, I'm not planning on going crazy with the factions. The starter (assuming I get one, but I think I will) will give me space marine scouts and ork boyz. I'm 95% done assembling a basic Skitarii ranger kill team. I will probably add Necrons and Tyranid Warriors in the future.

Plastics for Sisters of Battle and Inquisition warbands would be amazing.

If you can trust sneaky fuckin' Russians (sorry Vlad. ;) ) this will be as close as we get until GW gets smart.

FYI - the templates are the exact same size as the ones from Necromunda and earlier editions of 40k. The only difference is no hand flamer template.

Question on point values... for example let's say there is a soldier unit, and the rule book says the soldier comes equipped with a knife, and he is 100 points. But then in the equipment section, it lists the knife as costing 10 points. Is your soldier with a knife really 110 points, or does he get the knife for free?

IIRC from my necromunda days, that would be included with the base price.

So a Schlub that says it comes with a gun and a knife whose base cost is 45pts, would cost 45 pts.

That cost is included in case you want to give a knife to someone who doesn't already come with one.

You can go with 2 knives as well for an extra Attack in melee. Don't forget you have to split successful attacks along both weapons, alternating. This makes it less desirable to dual wield a knife with a better weapon unless you maybe only have one attack.
