Semi Coop games never worked in our group. Archipelago is a standard "tragedy of the commons" scenario where everyone pushes the collective luck of the group just to get a little bit more ahead. Letting people that are in last place dictate if they want to just end the game is a psychological evaluation of your friends for sure. I know some that will playing to not be "sole losers" but also people that will just finish the game as fast as possible.

I don't believe the coop games lend themselves to letting one player win in the end from a game theory pespective. Unless some incentive is used to reward the lowest scoring but still, winning players. Either legacy style by giving upgrades, or giving extra points at the end score tally or being truly unable to deduce the standings from the boardstate.

I’ve added rules that disallow you from taking an action that would cause any track to fall below zero, but honestly making this a kind of dice placement game made all the difference in the world. And it’s now not boring again!

I'm guessing the currency is those fake paper bills you get at the adult theater.

We all know that, but you know about paper currency in adult theatres. I’ve honestly never heard of that and I know about adult theatres. You have intimate knowledge that can only be gained by ejaculating into another mans hair

To be fair, that is the best way to learn things.

This is the current working board. It’s meant to look like a planet in space but with a HUD. The granularity of the photo isn’t great but what it looks like in person is that the overlaid HUD is an interlaced-screen looking hologram with scan lines slightly visible.

So far it plays well. I’ve got the printed board all marked up with notes on where certain icons should go (how often Catastrophes are rolled, starting Ecology, moving some planetary icons around.

The way it plays is that you get two dice (agents) which you roll and then can re-roll once. You also get 5$. In player order you take turns placing them on the big cube icons (top left), with the higher number taking the bright yellow spot (first choice) and the next highest taking the red one (second choice).

Players then, top to bottom on the track, can choose one of the actions for that track:
- Industry: Build or destroy a Factory, move a Population from a space on an Industry space on the map, or adjust the Industry output down or up (to the max factories placed).

-Energy: same as above, but with power plants.

-Farming: This allows you to do the same as above but instead of building, you can place a meeple in your color onto the board on any space adjacent to a space that is populated by a meeple.

- Education: Spend a dollar/Gain a dollar to increase/decrease Education track, build a Technology.

Civil Unrest: build/destroy a Security Station, False Flag (increases Civil Unrest but gains you 2$), or move a meeple from a Security Station space.

Taxation: Adjust tax rate then gain Rate x Industry - Education OR spend 3$ to adjust Ecology upward. This is a one person only spot, and it also gets you the First Player token. You may never choose Taxation two turns in a row.

Play continues until 10th-13th round (5 player = 10, 2 Player = 13)

Whatever all that stuff is in the upper right hand corner, is it possible to put that on individual cheatsheets for each player? Otherwise, it looks like trouble for anybody who isn't sitting in the chair that the board is facing. Or if it has to be on the board, maybe you could translate most of the text into more easily visible icons to match text on individual cheatsheets.

It's a fairly big font, but I'm going to include a larger copy of it on the back of the rulebook. It's the tech tree, so to speak. The icons are clear and all that really matter, but
I had all the space so I figure I might as well use it. It's too much game to fit on an 8x16 board like I had hoped, and it's too expensive to do lots of decks of cards, so I compromised and got a bigger board with the text on there.
