Hasbro/AH Reprints for 2008

In a way, I'm glad to hear that Hasbro/AH is giving another run at this, which given the reprint news that's coming out about these titles certainly looks that way. It appeared they'd given up the brand for dead (and Axis and Allies variants), so seeing them have another stab at the hobbyist market is reassuring.

Will it work this time? Probably not on a scale that Hasbro will consider "successful". So, we should snap up the reprints that we want and enjoy them while we can.

Diplomacy is out.

The question now is if Wal-Mart, Target, and the rest of the mega-stores will be carrying it.

After you guys get your copies of Diplomacy, message me if you want to play an email game, one turn a week. All negotiations over email, or phone if you care to. We would need to designate one person to receiving the orders and that person would need to either be honest in not looking before making moves or be someone not playing who will distribute the moves after they're in. If there's interest in playing, I'll coordinate it.

I never checked, but is Diplomacy available online for these types of games? That would simplify things.

Check out the external link page of Diplomacy's Wikipedia entry:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diplomacy_%28game%29#External_links

There are numerous ways to play it online. Haven't tried any so far. Anyone else good/bad experience with one of these?

(It seems you have to copy&paste the whole link, something seems to be wrong with the hyperlink function)

E-mail and I used realpolitik when I used to play online. Works just fine. Easiest with a moderator.

There is certainly an online Dip PBEM game, that works quite well, cause that is how I played it.
Can't remember where it was, I can find out for you. If you're nice to me.

I'm always nice to you! Frank, you and I are best friends and allies. I think email Diplomacy would be fun, right Frank? MY FRIEND..my ALLY. Who's up for email Diplomacy? I sure hope that my good ALLY Frank decides to play.

Thanks everyone for the links. I will check them out this weekend when I have some time. I'd at least like to have one "official" game set-up for everyone's viewing pleasure in case someone executes orders that were not written down--which tends to ruin the game for everyone.

I was discussing an email game of diplomacy with a few folks before this thread came out, but we don't have enough people. Seriously let me know if you're interested in playing. I'm hoping that one of these online games will keep the orders secret and execute them once they are all in. That would make this easy.

Wouldn't that be the Austro-Hungarian Empire?

dipbounced is the place to play Diplomacy online. You can also sign onto one of the "judged" play-by-email games at diplom.org.

And, now that BGG is back up, there is a Diplomacy at Dipbounced guild.

Only for the first game-year. Then it's "Austria"; then, a year later, it's "hey Mr. Former Hapsburg Monarch, since you're sitting the rest of this out, do us a favor and go get chips and another case of beer" ;)
