Accesible Wargame for my dad

I'm surprised but when I asked my dad if he would want to play a wargame with me, he liked the idea a lot. Actually being in the army and having played Panzer General a lot it isn't really surprising and I distinctly remember him having a wargame and me losing the chits and wondering how it was played.

Anyways, I'm looking for a wargame to play with him and you guys actually know how to recommend a game, so here's my criteria.

- Hex and counter. I think we would both greatly prefer this to blocks or area control.
- Historical setting. Preferably from the XIX century onwards.
- Hour and half, two hours of lenght.
- Simple mechanics. He told me he would like something like Civilization V, which would make me think of OGRE, were he open to science fiction. But something like Panzer General is more complex and should be okey too.
- Bonus: Easily readable and pretty.

Any recommendations? :)

Band of Brothers screaming eagles?

(I'd recommend Combat Commander, but based on Panzer General, maybe he'd prefer some AFV's in there)

actually, Conflict of Heroes sounds like it would be right up his alley

Lock & Load's system is pretty doggone easy to learn and spans WWII through modern day.

Consider Valor & Victory for easy squad level WWII -- Print and Play which may be a blessing or a curse as far as you're concerned, but they're bigger pieces for fading eyes and super-easy rules.

I was going to recommend Combat Commander too. Damn fine game and pretty easy the learn.

How about No Retreat: The Russian Front. Gorgeous game and lots of the game innovations of the past decade packed into it.

No Retreat for the newer games is a great choice.

There's still nothing wrong with Avalon Hill's Afrika Korps (ok, besides the friggin' color scheme). It's a solid, easy to play game with a rulebook that fits on a single tabloid-sized page

Wow, thanks a lot for the recommendations! It seems that indeed Band of Brothers is what I'm looking for, it looks simple and fun and doesn't have event cards, which I would rather do without :)

Now to get a copy.
