Yea, it really is that great of a game. I'm an unabashed nostalgia buyer, so I don't mind shit like that at all, but this really is one of those games that is simply singular. From my non-nostalgic perspective, it's a somewhat like Combat Commander but a bit more abstracted as far as the battlefield goes, although not in a bad way. The best way to look at it is that in Combat Commander you are given a rough sketch of the battlefield with no details as the map was probably scrawled in ten minutes. In Up Front, you are charging in blind because maps are for suckers.
It's a great game, probably better than any other action oriented tactical wargame out now. I somewhat prefer CC, but that's just a personal preference thing and I'd gladly play either. If you like gritty, suspenseful wargaming, you can't go wrong with Up Front. Unless you preorder it from a dieing company ofc.
