It mainly depends on how similar wargamers in Asia, Europe, and the US are. If they're very similar, you can just make valid inferences based on past performance using US preorder data.

My guess is that they have pretty different preferences, and that would make it very tricky to make accurate predictions about game sales. They might be missing good sales by not producing games that are attractive to Europe or Asia saleswise, for example.

Sagrilarus wrote: So presumably the P500 is to judge interest, and American interest should be a relatively accurate reflection of non-American interest, and the publisher should have some level of sales data indicating how many boxes went overseas and how many stayed local. That is, 500 American pre-sales should indicate 600 pre-sales worth of interest worldwide. So in theory the need to offer P500 overseas isn't as important as it appears. I don't know if publishers think this way, but they certainly could.

It may gauge demand, but it does not remove the issue of not getting the cash up front from the overseas market. So they've either got to set the unit goal high enough to take that into account or fine tune the prepub price.

As far as overseas buyers having different buying preferences than the US, maybe...but between the relatively low % of total sales it represents and some demand being stifled by import duties/VAT, etc its probably hard to draw a concrete conclusion.

MMP and GMT don't bill until product is about to ship, so money up front isn't as big an issue. I'll concede that the money is better with prepub, so those sales are more important. If their real goal is a dollar threshold then there isn't much they can do to work overseas into the mix. There would need to be a distributor taking a cut.

Warriors of Japan is likely days away from going to print, so if you've been considering the preorder price now is the time to make the decision. The link is here -- www.multimanpublishing.com/Products/tabi...ctID/93/Default.aspx

And re-reading this thread, MMP has continued to prune the list of games on prepub as they have pretty much cleared the list of all the old stuff that took forever.

There are only six games on it now.

Warriors of Japan will be shipping shortly. None of the others have hit their preorder number, although Last Blitzkrieg is close numbers wise, testing is more or less done, and graphics are done as well. That's probably the next one to get printed I'd guess.

They do have other stuff in the pipeline, namely some ASL stuff, such as reprints of core product and the Korean module is rumored to be going up soon.

The Devil's Cauldron reprint is kind of stalled - I have a feeling they put that one up to appease those that kept clamoring for a reprint to show them , " yeah OK, put your money where your mouth is ". Predictably there aren't enough willing to do that.

From the developer on CSW --

"For sure, Jeffrey...but you'll feel right at home on the rest. It is a bit more thoughtful and strategy focused instead of chaos and narrative...it is simpler for sure in mechanics but perhaps more complex in how to play it well.

But the engine is very similar."

Jeffrey mentioned that the names will be harder to pronounce.

Thanks for the, er, warning about WoJ. I had preordered back in 2012 and just now canceled whatever I still had outstanding with MMP, including WoJ. I'm sure it'll be good, and it's not pique. I just have too many things in or inbound to justify another game.
