Wooden Ships & Iron Men Frikkin' THROW DOWN

More

You guys who haven't been paying attention may have missed it, but Craniac begged for a YouPlay.it game of Wooden Ships and Iron Men, and he got three takers -- me, DoktorMabuse and OzJesting. We've gone 12 rounds in about three days, and as best I can tell we may end up in a dead-draw, with the last three of us sinking simulataneously in the same round. Dok came out of the gate and put himself between both British ships and firing in both directions as I pushed out on top of the wind to get high ground. He delivered a sound beating in both directions but was sunk by their combined fire two turns ago.

I'm left to represent the French, the pumps ain't keeping up and I'm between both heavily damaged British ships in DoktorDeliverAbuse fashion, likely to go down and perhaps taking one or even both British ships with me. This has been a frikkin' GREAT time playing a frikkin' GREAT game that takes about 30 minutes to learn. No one near my house is interested to play, but I've found a great session on the Internet with my fellow Ameritrashers as opponents.

I've already told the other three that when we're done I want to re-rack and play again. A finish this close (something not guaranteed in Wooden Ships & Iron Men) deserves a rematch regardless of who wins.

I still don't quite have my head wrapped around the HDT firing thing (I had 3 turns where I didn't fire on Ozjesting due to having my HDT* value set too high?)but his has been AWESOME!

This is like a hidden in-browser gaming gem.

It is done. I have just enough crew and sail left to limp back to report that everyone is dead except me. Ive been left alive yet suffer the shame of no points...NO POINTS!

Somebody make rematch happen!

My programmed move would have given me a 3hdt shot at Shrewsbury. Four chances in six of sinking her if it had played out. But Invincible banged into me and locked me up, saving her sister ship. That was one damn close finish!

Same scenario same password youplay.it/play/ws_GameSubscribe.asp?GameID=727396

I think Sag coulda have finished me but he had accidentally fire into my rigging for two turns.

It isnt hard at all Pete...once you know how to read the chart you can make better decisions, but mostly you click a few buttons, unclick them...try and guess which buttons the other guys forgot to click....then click a button. Come back later and hope to not see too much red!

easy.

Blue max is pretty much the same thing in the sky. We really should get a few squadrons up and flying!

In the second game i sailed into a trap and my hull has more holes in it than choose your metaphor.

Where is this rumored Blu Max game?

You sure did. At this point you're going to pretty much do what ships did back then -- sit beside your opponent and reload as fast as you can. Your other issue is that both you and the good Doktor are running out of guns on the enemy-facing sides of your ships. It may be time to prepare boarding parties.
