What's the Word on Ottoman Sunset? was created by Sagrilarus
I'm reading my snazzy new gaming magazine and it has a brief writeup on Academy's States of Siege series. Israeli Independence doesn't grip me (I just can't get into modern warfare games) and the zombie one actively repels me. But Ottoman Sunset, that one looks interesting. Solo game that plays in under and hour, and playing the cards in their proper order presents the history of the fall of the Ottoman Empire.
Has anyone seen this game in real life?

Soviet Dawn is part of the same package. They are worth it for one, max two, games.
Trivial and, ultimately, boring. You want to find out about these events? Read a book.
These are not simulations they are just playing a hand of cards with interesting stuff written on them. Absolutely no re playability value at all.

To be fair, ThirstyMan, if it takes less than 3 hours it's barely worth your time
There is definitely an upper limit to play on most States of Siege - mine was 10 maybe on these two. The expansion breathed a few more plays into Soviet Dawn. The up side is, well presented cards and I felt at least a little bit part of the action. The down side for me was, if you roll <4 (usually) you fail, so a lot of the time I felt like my decisions were meaningless because I would have failed regardless.
I dunno, overall I liked both Ottoman and Soviet. I can loan them to you if I can find them and find you in relative time proximity

I've played Ottoman sunset, Cruel Necessity, and Israeli Indi (thanks SS). Thirsty has a point, in that they are essentially flip through a card deck and spend resources reacting to random events. These are not in depth strategy games and i've only played each of them one to four times before getting bored. Having said this Ottoman might be the best of the bunch.
Imo, its probably worth trying one of the states of siege games and then trading it on.

I was a little concerned when I saw someone mention a 25 minute play time. I generally don't have time for monster games, but I much prefer something in the 2 - 4 hours range for this kind of thing.
Bring it to the beach Ditty, I may be done with it by 7pm Friday!
