Basari was created by Steve Weeks

I played Basari this weekend. An old lingering Eurogame housed at the Weeks Bungalow. It doesn't get much play due to the 3 player minimum requirement. I prefer games that play 2+ players. A quick glance through the rules and we were off trading gems.

I was playing with Puerto Rican Pete who read my moves like a book. A quick glance at the pawn position and gem inventory will easily give you a clue as to what the player might do, take the points take the gems, or roll the die. I forgot the importance of choosing the die as a few lucky rolls will give you a headstart around the board and in easy contention for the 10 point bonus at the end.

Bartering when two players choose the same action is difficult. Do you give someone a lead in a color to grab the riches at your current space? Filled with decions and bluffing and trying to second guess your opponent with quick playtime makes for a good game in my book. High interaction from the bartering makes the game more fun with better players or players with personality rather than the run of the mill BGG Con Toad who is better off playing multi player solitaire games while sipping a Yoo Hoo and and smiling at the exploits of feminine men prancing through the new games room.

I only wish I had the original version as the photos I have seen make a much nicer display rather than the colors and design in my version seen above.

This game along with Cloud 9 and Survive rounded off a good game night.

This is a good, classic German game. This edition is also ass ugly, but it's the most common.

I kind of like how everything is up front in it- values, inventory, etc. It makes the bartering very on-the-level, and it gives sort of a "book value" for deals.

Haven't seen a picture of that version before. I don't think it's so much ugly, as dated. Looks like they chose to give it a 50s style.
