WHO IS EXCITED ABOUT RUHRSCHIFFAHRT?

Subject says it all. I am pretty sure that it is the next great This Game of Ours. I don't even know what it's about. But I feel smart for being so excited about it. RUHRSCHIFFAHRT.

This is the game that fired Blargle Von Blugenblart. It's 80% of the fun with only 60% or the work.

Is ruhrschiffahrt German for "the dog did it?"

Three Fs, not two in the name. That's not promising.

Awarded "the best lengthy game" in 2011. One of those prizes you'd rather not win.

Until the second half of the 18th century most people thought that larger barges could not navigate the Ruhr River.

Holy fuck were they wrong!

Only the building 14 locks between Witten and Ruhrort changed this.

Waitaminnit. Who's got the roofies and they did what?

Man, you can make a Euro out of anything these days. Wait until the one about proper sleep cycles.

Uh oh...I left off the third F.

Would you guys be more excited if the game were about cocaine barges?

The great Richard Launius once told me "I don't make Eurogames about filling ketchup bottles or counting bicycles".

I'd be more excited if they were armed steam barges transporting cocaine, hookers and endangered birds.

EHRMEGERD RUHRSCHIFFAHRT!

Translates back from excited-braces-girlese into: "Oh my God, righteous fart."

I've heard Rheinschifffahrt is better because it solves the imbalance problem with the 4th-player starting position.

That's three f's by the way.

Ya know, for all the memes and tropes being trotted out for this, I gotta say, the board is kind of nice looking (in a crayola 64-count box kind of way) and most insufficiently brown for the theme. That's a plus.

It's a little weird that a game that's not yet been published has already won an award--the Hippodice Award, which means absolutely nothing to me but probably should to You Guys Who Write About Games. This some sort of prototyping competition or what?

And, hey, if you just can't get enough 19th century Ruhr valley gaming goodness, he's got a 2nd Hippodice Award-winning game coming, again from Spielworxx, next year--this one on coal mining in the Ruhr.
