Morels (no comment necessary)

Now I feel like drinking Umami, Dieu du Ciel!'s excellent morels beer. Too bad they don't bottle it.

You can hate this game for the whole Euro set-collecting, buy-sell market mechanics. Decently implemented, but not my thing.

don't knock the theme until you've read the rulebook. It is full of references to things "Fireblaze Mushrooms, which can kill a man within three steps." and shows an absolutely frothing dedication to all of the fun mushrooms. It is written in a highly dramatic fashion and is kind of awesome to actually read.

Wow. If you didn't tell me about those mechanics, then given your post and wice's I might be convinced this is Ameritrash in Euro clothing.

Is it too much to hope for some sort of insta-death card as a result of picking a poisonous shroom?

I haven't met the designer, but I hear he's a real fun guy.

I want this game. The Destroying Angel (the card pictured in the above post, no not mushroom man #2) can kill you in hours by destroying your liver and kidney functions. But its the cortinarius that are most scary to me, you eat them and get sick, then get better and then a few weeks later your kidneys give out.

Picked 2 pounds of proper morels behind my parents house (love them thar Wisconsin ash forests...) last time I was out there wading through the leaf mulch. They were thrilled (I'm not much of a fan of most mushrooms as a stand-alone item; more of a flavor-base kind of thing for me. That, though, would be a waste of $100 worth of fresh morels)

I have to say, though, that player elimination via horrid poison mushroom death should be in *every* game....
