On what planet is High Frontier a Euro? And how many burns does it take to get there?

It doesn't easily fit into any category, i wouldn't call it AT, or a war game and it uses a number of euro mechanics. But yeah on the planet my table which takes 8 burns to reach its a euro.

In response to Tom Vasel's top wargames vid, I came up
with my own top euros:

Civilization, 1856, Imperial, Dune, Brass

:D

yeah, I mean I'm not gonna pick a fight, but I'm interested in your reasoning for listing dune as a euro.

It's as much of a euro as what his group picked were wargames.
Mainly, this was an exercise in showing why people who aren't a
PART of a hobby (I'm no eurogamer) shouldn't be trying to define it.

To me, Dune meets all the euro design principles that I consider
euros exemplified.

it has no dice in its combat i guess. Unfortunately the Vassal rarely graces us with his presence here.

Despite this being a site for Ameritrash fans we have a rather sophisticated definition of Euro for some reason. Interestingly most people here seem to classify war games more or less 'correctly'.

A tough call, but here goes:

Age of Steam
Power Grid
Tigris & Euphrates
Age of Industry (prefer over Brass)
Amun-Re

Runners Up:

Expedition (prefer to Wildlife Adventure)
Carcassonne H&G
Goa
Medici
Modern Art
Monkeys on the Moon
Ra
Spectral Rails
TransAmerica

Not sure if these count as Euros:

Boomtown (goes in the top 5 if it counts)
Dragonland
Kingdoms
LOTR coop board game
Snow Tails

All this goes to show is that I have no idea what counts as a Euro anymore. I suppose that's a good thing.

Many AT games are warish in nature. To carve out a domain of their own, I think there's
more willingness to segment. Personally, I think there's overlap (A&A, maybe even FA).
Then again, there are things like Here I Stand which even most wargamers will think are wargames,
but I don't (too broad).

Top five Euros?

In no particular order:

1) San Juan
2) Clash of Cultures
3) Settlers of Catan
4) Ticket to Ride
5) Who's the Boss?

Honorable mention in case someone thinks Clash of Cultures does not count as a Euro only as a civ game:

That's Life!

Hard to argue with being on a top-5 list... but a Euro? ;) :)
