Recent Topics paging, uploading images and preview bugs require a patch which has not yet been released.

× Talk about Eurogames here.

I swear I thought this was a parody.

In the small East Frisian village of Arle on the verge of the 18th century, your family must take care of numerous tasks: dehydrate the moot, plow the farmland, and breed the animals. Improving your craftsmanship in the village and constructing the appropriate buildings will be invaluable.

Turn by turn, assign various tasks to the members of your family while keeping an eye open for the changing seasons. Use your vehicles to trade resources with others and upgrade your goods.

The fields of Arle await you!

Over at that other place I've been told that a game about the fashion industry was ill-conceived, as what kind of interest could most people find in that subject?

But reactions to the above? "where can we preorder?" "looks amazing!" "This is a MUST buy"

just can't wait to dehydrate that moot

I think the designer might have something to do with the interest.

"Oh boy, Uwe crapped out the same game a fourth...fifth?...time!"

This is like getting a collect call from your cousin in NotFuckingTryingAtAllistan.

It's the same as if Lucas made another Star Wars, that'd be huge. I mean, there's already a Star Wars coming out, and it's gonna be huge.

Euro players turn their nose up at expansions, but they're perfectly pleased to buy the same game again. See: Stefan Feld.

(We're not much better with how many fantasy combat games have been made, but at least Richard Garfield does totally different things with his designs. I like to think that he's the American version of one of those guys).

C'mon, that's an obvious typo. Clearly you're supposed to dehydrate the moops.

Quite literally the easiest theme to paste onto anything. Take a bunch of disparate, typical 'euro' mechanics (i.e. worker placement, resource conversion), stuff them into a victory point-churning framework, and ensure no one is directly interacting—the players should be thinking about how to be most efficient at turning X into Y then into VP. The game should feel like mathematical puzzle busywork. Think to yourself, 'hey, the players are basically doing algebra, how about we theme the game with something else unfun… I know, medieval toil and drudgery! We'll make the players serfs trying to grow enough potatoes for their regional lord! It's only been done a few thousand times, there's still life in the genre!'

Voilà, Spiel de Jahres award winner and bestseller, if you're a designer with a recognizable name. Otherwise, do the same thing half a dozen more times and people will eventually catch on.

I'm finishing up a PhD in water quality (pollution) management. Cutting dykes, deforestation, and dehydrating are all terrible land management practices in terms of long term sustainability. I therefore must take a stand against this irresponsible product and declare a boycott.

I want to laugh and all, but I really do have some pet designers and then I feel like a hypocrite.

I actually have a ton of Rosenberg games. I like his stuff. I might trade it off later, but I'll take a crack.

Pretty much everything Chvatil makes I will try. The only "let down" so far is PROPHECY, and even that is pretty fun.

I think I have every game Sirlin has made except for that Panda one. Poker does nothing for me.

It's hard for me to complain about folks liking a designer, or a designer going back to the well that has produced so much. I spent a lot of money on Richard Launius because he likes to treat 5s and 6s as success.
